Is Paul Camillin on a WIND UP?

Who's doing that? I think the general opinion, and certainly my own, is that he usually does a good job. Tonight though he was unrealistically optimistic, and went on about that penalty WAY too much. I think you're overreacting a little.

Believe me, they'll be some OTT reactions shortly as NSC trys to find a scapegoat for Hartle-gate. Just reminding people not too get too personal towards a throughly decent chap from what I know.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....but none of you were there FFS!!!!!!!

When did anyone on here let that get in the way of a prize spackfest?

I've never been Camillin's greatest fan but all he was saying was that it was a vastly improved performance after the weekend's disappointment. Harmless enough OPINION, and certainly not deserving of the derision on here.

Losing a game to a dodgy penalty and sucker punch two minutes later doesn't mean the players weren't trying.

Why not go on about the penalty. He made it clear enough to me that we was robbed with that decision. He was just showing his love for the club. That is allowed you know.

I totally agree with getting some perspective here. It was radio commentary, not exactly a hanging offence. As for this being a general consensus - this I strongly doubt that with only 13 people involved in the thread!

He's a great guy and a brilliant asset to the club, no doubt about that at all. Which made it more annoying when he was making a bit of a fool of himself by being really rather boring about that linesman. It's actually pretty rare that you're dealt a complete injustice - it does happen but far less often than many admit, myself included; I think most of us realise that duff decisions even themselves out.

Because the commentator's job, especially on radio, is to relay the match to the fan's listening fairly and honestly. He said once or twice he didn't have the best position to see it, and that maybe the ref was right, but this little tenet was a murmured aside hidden in a neverending rant about a penalty decision he disagreed with as a biased fan, not as a fair and balanced commentator. Naturally Mickey and Hawkins disagree with the decision, but there are reports from other fans there suggesting it was a good call, or at most a soft penalty but a penalty nonetheless.

And while he is going on about it and showing his love for the club, he is neglecting his job of commentator to call the match.

But then I don't like a lot of the co-commentators they get on. I like Hawes, I like Byrne, the others either lack experience, show over the top fan bias (I don't necessarily blame them, it's just not what I want from a commentator) or we have Norman Gall who seems to ignore Hawes half the time. I've lost count of the number of times we get exchanges like:

Hawes: And Hartlepool shoot... it's blocked on the line by Matt Richard, fantastic clearance
Gall: It was, the shot came in, kuipers was out of place, but fortunately El Abd was on the line to clear it... was it el abd
Hawes: (politely correctin him) It was Matt Richards

was it a pen......hartlepool website says nail on....albion and adams said it was not a pen

other end of the pitch, but looked like hawkins basically BARGED into their player without any reason to do so

should be a penalty for STUPIDITY more than anything

their fans seemed CERTAIN that it was, although it was only given by the linesman NOT the ref

Some of the things he says, appear to be a bit OTT, and biased. But then, it's his job to SELL the club via media...

Anyway, ANYTHING is better than Norman Gall being let loose on the airwaves!

Is Paul Camilin the "Insider" on here? ???

Yes, he is the clubs press officer so you would hardly expect him to be too harsh on his fellow employees and mates would you. I think that the point he was trying to make was that the players were upset in themselves for their performance on Saturday and had tried to restore some pride in their performance and he thought that they had done so, obviously some on here think otherwise.

Sorry if this message doesnt come out alright, on the coach by heathrow. I thought we were outplayed for the 90 mins and pool were good value for the win. Only players who could come away knowing they did a good job are kuipers, elphick, and forster. We are a liability defending and its worrying.

no pride what-so-ever for me.

1st half was OK, they had a few early crosses across our 6 yard box, but no real clear cut chances.

Forster took his goal really well, rounding the keeper. Other than that, a long range Cox effort and a Murray shot that hit the roof of the stand

Second half was a complete shambles
As soon as the whistle for kick off went, we sat back on the edge of our area, letting them attack us and attack us.

They went close a few times, and the penalty was stupid penalty to give away. No need for Hawkins to climb all over the attacker. I called penalty at the time, and wondered why the ref didnt give it, but the lino saw it easliy and gave it

After that we just got in a rut and couldnt get forward, and conceeded a sloppy goal after being under lots of pressure

Will do player ratings in the morning when I wake up, for me David Livermore was MOM

We finished the game with a front line of Fleetwood, Murray, Forster, Elphick, Hawkins and Robinson, and the romance of the FA Cup saw Elphick and Hawkins try a left footed one-two because they were both too scared to shoot.

I didnt think our goal should have been disallowed, as Fleetwood got to the by line and pulled it back for Murray to tap it in, with Murray being behind the ball, I didnt think he could be offside.

Penalty or not, he did really labour the point and was sounding like someone had stolen his lolly by the end. I quite enjoyed his commentary apart from the banging on about the linesman like a dog with a bone.

Camillin ran a fanzine and was hugely active in the fight to save the Albion. He bleeds blue and white and (unlike some of the whining cyber nerds on here)
patently loves the club.

Completely agree...But then because he's got close ties to the club, some people on here are jealous of that.

He's harmless and only said probably what the rest of would have said had we have been at the game. It's nice to hear someone being positive about the Albion for a change, rather than the constant whinging all the time.

Yes we lost, but Hartlepool have one of the best home records in the league so why is anyone surprised?

Because we are Albion supporters and we deserve to win every game and should be beating the likes of Hartlepool and anyone else in our division.
