Is Oscar really leaving ?

I may be hallucinating in my old age, but I have vague memories of being taken along as a kid to the grand opening in Hove - by Schnorbitz and one or more of the brothers - of a car wash. Anyone else have a similar memory?

Hmmm, maybe it was a car showroom rather than a car wash!?!? I remember being bored at how long it took, and they kept playing "Everything's Coming up Roses" over and over again, if that helps? (I've hated it ever since.) What an exciting childhood I had, and what fun family outings.

I think Ward replacing the more skilful and exciting but injury prone Bridge is a good example. Steady and has played just about every game and although he is not in the same class as Bridge, well just look at his record for Reading this season. A full season of a good player like Ward is better than half a season of an injured Bridge.

True. Although Bridge was almost ever present for us wasn't he, and class.

As many have pointed out, Oscar keeps mentioning the fact we are not clinical enough and of course he is often quoted as having said his obsession is attacking football. I think he's been a bit held back by our main attacking outlets being injured half the time.

What do you know about Jones role and his coaching level and previous achievements etc just out of interest?

It's utterly bizarre this isn't it? Football fans just HAVE to have someone to knock. The Jones thing seems to be based solely on his past with us and the fact he doesn't smile much.

You're damning Ward with faint praise by 'steady', he's been rock solid at the back and a more consistent attacking threat than Bruno.
I think we all bought into Bridge getting his mojo back, with Brighton.
Because that feeds directly into our passion for the club, and rightly we all loved it.
But performance wise I really don't think there's been a drop off at left back this season, when there should have been a massive discrepancy. (I guess that's nothing to do with Burke though)

Thinking it through, you are quite right. Ward has also chipped in with crucial goals in a season of misfiring strikers and there is not much between him and Bridge as defenders. I was blinded by memories of how exciting Bridge was rampaging down the wing leaving players in his wake. One of my abiding memories of last season.

The fact that I'd possibly make Ward my player of the season, with not many games to go makes my analogy void!!

I agree. I think we are very near to the finished article. Once the attack clicks, whether that be a run of form/injury free play, or a couple of new additions to the squad, we'll be pretty damn good.

I went as well. It was in Portland Road. Mike and Bernie Winters had an awful row about denture cleaner outside the Gala Bingo Hall.

Mike the got very drunk in The Portland as it was then and The Aldrington Club.
He spent the night on Aldrington Station , halt as it was then. Getting the 05:13 to Brighton.

Fair shout, he's certainly up there. I think he's the second best crosser of the ball at pace in the club -the first, IMHO, being Buckley when he's fit. Whilst Spanish Dave can hit a ball pretty sweetly, this requires him to be almost standing still. Worth noting I think, that Kaz's decision making has improved somewhat too this season. I know there are a few comments on the board about him leaving at the end of the season but even with his limited game time this season I think he has actually improved as an all round player.

More goals, more assists and more clean sheets with Ward too. And if signed we get at least 4 more years out of him.

Think you're right about Kaz, but he still has further to go on improving his decision-making. He's been very unlucky not to have scored this year although that record suggests there's plenty of room for improvement on that front. What really annoys me about him is that he always waits for a defender to catch up with him so he can go past him; I just wish he'd bomb on and exploit his explosive pace more.

I presume for former. He knew the situation when he arrived so I hope he's referring to the lack of depth when we had an injury crisis. We needs good squad players that don't collapse when the wind changes, hopefully this summer will sort that out.

Had a very interesting conversation last night with someone who has been involved with the club in various capacities for the past 20 years (mainly as a club sponsor) will pass on what he told me...

Basically Bloom has instructed Barber and Burke to pretty much take over control of player recruitment, contract negotiations and the whole scouting network at the club, Bloom wanted a total change in the way that the club was structured and basically tasked Burke with 'cleaning up after Gus' part of that was to dispose of the players that were pro Gus (and verbally pro Gus) and at the same time ensure that the club progressed youngsters through both the academy and U21 setups, hence the progression and transition of the likes of Ince and March.

He also informed me that there will be significant changes in the summer, both within the structure of the club and also in terms of the playing squad, expect to see more of the players inherited by Gus to depart and expect to see further progression from the youth setup and increased investment in bringing in younger players to the club but within the development squad initially.

Oscar was fully aware of Blooms intentions prior to taking on the role of head coach and was also aware of the clubs long term commitment to FFP, he bought into developing the younger players and progressing them through the club and also accepted the days of spending 3 million on a player (CMS) was not in the clubs short term plans (driven by Gus under the old structure) and that whilst investment was still available and the playing budget actually increased, the clubs priority was to have the club on a steady footing financially but also to remain competitive on the pitch.

He was adamant that Bloom will not gamble with the clubs future, he won’t gamble on promotion by spending beyond the clubs means and Bloom is very much looking at the long term goal and development of the club at every level, ensuring the club is 'Premier League Ready' and setup to sustain that level rather than experience it and suffer as a consequence of it.

Finally, despite what you read in the press, Oscar is exceptionally happy at Brighton, he and his family are settled and enjoy life in England, he is very much part of the long term plan and understands his role within the clubs structure, expect to see big changes in the summer, Oscars influence grow in time but at present the focus is 'moving on from Gus' and that’s why Burke and Barber are heavily involved in the mandate given out by Bloom.

In Bloom I trust and in Oscar I believe.......

I'm yet to be convinced by oscar & unsure about who recruited Nathan jones.

I cannot believe that jones was oscars first choice.If he was I'm disappointed with that oppintment.He he wasn't then I'm dissapointed that Oscar wasn't strong enough to get his own man.

Yes we have unearthed a couple of diamonds this season in rohan ince & solly march but would they have been unearthed if we hadn't had such horrendous injury problems this season.

One thing that has impressed me with Oscar has been how attack minded his substitutions have been even in games that we have been winning.
