Is Mr Brown behaving like a dictator?

Seems to be behaving like a defeated tin pot Dictator. I'm not going any where! Poor Gordon is losing face now and really showing a lack of gignity plus damaging British polotics. Nick Clegg has already indicated that he would not work with a Brown led Labour party so come on Gordan do the Gentlemanly thing and resign.

We have a political system where (rightly or wrongly) you have to get 326 seats to win the election. The Tories didn't get that. Therefore, they have not won.

I thought Brown was quite humble in his statement today, and seems ready to accept the outcome of a Tory-Lib Dem coalition (train wreck in my opinion) if it comes about.

Whilst it can be said that technically Cameron hasnt won because he needed 326 seats
but it is obvious to anybody that as the party with most seats Tory should be forming a new government. Whether or not they can run the country with their lack of an overall majority is another issue and if it proves impossible there should be another election called as and when they get defeated.

GB is a Wolfman and expects the minions to follow his lead. And when they don't he gets stressed. Cleggy ain't a Muttley. Its a team game.

Actually, while I didn't vote for Labour yesterday, I think Brown is being courageous and dignified. It would be very easy under the circumstances to resign in a huff and go and watch the cricket (metaphorically) while letting others in the party sort out the situation. Instead, he's facing the music, doing the right thing in allowing the Tories and Lib Dems the space to speak together first, even though, constitutionally, he'd be on pretty safe ground to state that the incumbent administration should have first go (in the way the Heath government did in 1974).

Just because a party has more votes than any of the others does not mean that they necessarily should form the government. One fifth of the electorate voted for the leading party, after all. Substantially more people voted for the second and third parties put together.

And what would a Labour-Lib Dem look like? Heaven forbid!

But a Lib-Lab pact would represent the wishes of almost 50% more voters than the Conservatives alone. Numbers can tell you anything you want them to tell you.

Brown only said all that crap as Clegg came out and said the Tories should be able to try and form a goverment first.

Brown is trying to make out he cares, bullshit!

No, he is doing exactly what the constitution says he should do.

He is also doing what Ted Heath did in 1974 (in fact he's doing more by allowing the two other parties to hold coalition talks first).

Well, at least there are SOME logical policy similarities with that one!

I hate the man but he is only doing what our present system allows and, to a certin extent, reuires him to do. Any othe rleader would (and did - cf Heath) do the same.

As Ian Hislop just said on Have I Got News For You...

"We didn't vote for him last time. We didn't vote for him this time. But he's still Prime Minister. That's democracy."

Agreed. The Civil Servants briefed him.
