Slaves were not paid and were denied there liberty. Compare and contrast to, say, Carlos Tevez who earns a mint and buggers off to Argentina whenever he feels like it.

What are you on about? The fee is for the club and any third parties involved. Ultimately the player decides if they go and to which interested team they go. Not only that but players often get hefty signing on fees and a decent wage. What's wrong about it?

I do feel sorry for the likes of Loic Remy who has signed a four-year contract for an absolute fortune. A contract which if QPR go down, he has no need to or intention to honour because someone else will happily pay for his services. Another opportunity for a shameless plug for "My Father and other Working Class Football heroes" by Gary Imlach - my favourite book about the game (ok after "BAB" and "WWF"). In those days (50's and 60's) players were bought and sold over whisky and cigars in the boardroom and were told after the event "by the way we have sold you to XXXXX FC". Also players then were subject to maximum wage and probably a fair number of the fans were financially better off than they and had more job security.
