How did Spurs do under Mason when he was in temporary charge previously? Will they get a caretaker manager bounce?
W4 L2. Not really.

Basically Mason had 3 home wins against Saints, Sheff Utd, Wolves. They lost at home to struggling Villa and away at Leeds, then won their final away game at Leicester.

Spurs is clearly the easiest fixture from that list which could help us. It’s annoying because I’m not keen on Manure and Liverpool beating Villa. But we can certainly take 3 points off them. We are due a lucky match (or a match devoid of bad luck) and the Villa game could be the one.
We really are due a lucky match. I can't remember the last time we grabbed a lucky, undeserved win. Imagine grabbing 2 - against City and Villa to grab our Europa place.

We are in the top seven sides in form over 2023. Unfortunately, we need to play all of the other six.

No, it's all about us. One game at a time and forget what the others are doing.

Edit after Bozza's post, are the others above us in 2023 because we haven't played them yet?
Or we've actually been at par for the opposition we've played against?

Personally, I think we're an excellent team and have been throughout the season. Whatever happens with our injury destroyed squad for the rest of the season, it's been an incredible ride and easily the best PL season (so far).

Fifth would be like winning the league but, other than Arsenal in 2nd, we should finish above all the other London clubs - Spurs, Fulham, Brentford, Chelsea, Palace and West Ham. Who‘d have thunk it?

Spurs might be the hilariously out of form team at the moment but Villa have to go to United and Liverpool, play us and Spurs away, as well as a difficult away game at Wolves.

At least one of them has to drop points when they play each other so anything above 60 points will get Europe.

As pointed out earlier in the thread, Villa's unbeaten run of 8 wins and 2 draws only played Brentford 10th, and Newcastle in that top half list. Their remaining games are all against teams in the top 9 of that.

We SHOULD finish above Spurs. Then it'll be a battle with Liverpool and Villa over the 2 Europa League places. IMO.

Kind of how I was thinking about it. 11 or 12 points from our remaining 9 games should be enough without having to focus on anyone else.

Any of the sides up there would be desperately unlucky to not make Europe with 61 points. Only happened twice in the last 12 seasons, and both of those years had runaway champions with low points totals. With both City and Arsenal likely to surpass 85 points it will be very unlikely 61 points is not enough.

As mentioned before Villa still have to play us, Liverpool and Spurs, Liverpool play Spurs as well. Plenty of dropped points there.

Yes we have some tough games too but we are a bloody good side and if we get it right I'd back us to give anyone in football a tough game and I include Man City in that. In fact if City have one eye on the FA Cup & CL Finals when they play us then we've got a very good chance of beating them, as we saw back at the end of the 20-21 season, and we are a far better side that won that game.

Nah, no chance of any of that nonsense.

I read on here from the second coming of Mustafa that it's going to be a 'horrible' end to the season due to fixture congestion, injuries, out of form players, Wembley hangover, the grass being too long at Lancing and a lack of sparkling water in the dressing room.

Mid-table at best. Looks like we'll be finishing below Palace AGAIN :moo:

It's maybe still glass half full, but I have to admit my Albion mojo took a knock after that Spurs debacle. A semi-final win might have boosted it, but ...................well, the mojo's still flat.
The one thing above all others that would now make me happy for this season now would be for us to finish above Tottenham, and in doing so dump them out of all the European places - and if that means us finishing 7th. and them 8th, so be it. Some degree of justice will have been done.

Anything higher than 7th. would be a bonus - anything less and I'll still be feeling bitter next season!
