As an exile, Harty will always be a legend in my book as prior to the internet Gull's Eye was the only news I would ever get from the Albion. It is a real shame that the 100 fantastic editions of his organ have not been kept for posterity, as then someone could scan them in and we could read them in a special section of NSC.

He does try to be controversial on the radio to drum up a reaction, but that's part of his job. I just hope I don't see him on a 9-5 basis too soon.

He is controversial but so what? If he didn't do it, somebody else with far less history of the Albion and it's campaigns might well do instead, and then how insipid would the phone in be.

He raises questions others would not, and that can only be a good thing.

As for McCammon, tough, the guy has not done enough for us, and should therefore learn to take the rough with the smooth. Injuries or no injuries, his contribution over the whole period, despite scoring goals that did help us win games last season, has not been good enough.

On the rare occasions I'm awake & able to listen to it, I find Harty to be a good presenter. He cares passionately about the club, has opinions & that's what you want on local radio.

He was OWNED by Trolley though :lolol:

However, munchkin, I judge you to be a twat.

You will note I have never called Harty a knob, I merely asked the question, like I say in all the years I have followed the albion I have never been more embarrased with the way other clubs must view us (i.e MmC situation / Leon Knight) we look like a club that is being ripped apart, when we should all bee sticking together and getting behind EVERYBODY.

I personally felt Ian came out lookng a bit silly last week, and as a supporter found it embarrassing.

In this game you're only as good as your last phone-in.

Loyalty can only be taken so far.

Define looking a bit silly.

I don't think Harty was "OWNED" by McCammon in the slightest, as seems to be the consensus with some people here.

Harty was, I think, caught completely on the hop and was put in a very awkward position. He's has made it known that he doesn't rate the fella, but I'm sure he didn't want to be backed into a corner whereby he was live on air with that player demanding specific answers about WHY he doesn't think he's good enough. Sure, Harty could've turned round and said "well Mark, your first touch is non-existant, your passing is poor, you've got no pace, you can't shoot, and for a big guy you don't really get on the end of much". But he has to at least attempt to be diplomatic about it, and so couldn't go on and slaughter the guy or the whole thing would've degenerated into a slanging match. I'm sure Harty wanted to say more, but he has to try to maintain relations as well. I've never known a player call a phone-in to argue the toss with the presenter, and it certainly made for interesting listening, but Harty was clearly uncomfortable and squirming, not because he couldn't come up with answers as to why he doesn't rate McCammon, but simply because he didn't want to tell it to him direct for fear of things getting out of hand. And bearing in mind he has to hang around at Withdean and talk to various players face to face, including McCammon, I can't really blame him for not being as candid as he could have been.

McCammon was clearly spoiling for a "fight" on air, and Harty had a fine line to walk. I thought he did pretty well to stop it esculating any further.

I disagree. As the full harris rightly pointed out, he should have really turned the screw on McCammon, but couldn't.

I like Harty though - a real asset to the club and capable radio presenter.

I disagree.
McCammon was in the position of being able to shoot his mouth off, and could be as aggressive as he liked. Harty had to keep a cool head and try to keep things cordial. All harty had said was that he didn't think McCammon was up to Championship standard, and look at the reaction he got from him just for that. If Harty had DARED to tell McCammon exactly what he thinks his deficiencies are as a player, then I think we'd have had an almighty slanging match, followed by the biggest FLOUNCE since Leon found out someone had been at his Haribos.

Oh yeah. Everyone says he was a diamond geezer away from the Russian front, at home with a glass of mulled wine and a slice of Stollen.

To be pedantic, he didn't drink. Which proves you should never trust or like anyone who doesn't drink.
