Nope, at no stage yesterday did I believe we would score.

Exactly I'm not sure what aggressively providing my point is supposed to achieve.

As Icy said had all these shots just wide been on target they would have hit one of the multitude of Norwich players in the way.

Danny Ings is very average apart from his finishing. This season Ings has played 23 EPL games and scored 5. A far superior return, I admit, than Neal's return of 8 from 28. Oh, hang on. Ah but some of Neal's goals are penalties - he's a top penalty taker. Oh, hang on....no anyway, Ings and Maupay, not much between them, except that Ings plays for another team so is much the better player by definition. Ings is 4 years older and prone to the odd near career-ending injury, too. Singe him up!

I also read somehere in this thread some sneering about Brighton being so dim (I paraphrase) that we bought he crappest of Brentford's three forwards - with Toney and Watkins obviously better. I had to take a pew to think about that...

Watkins was Maupay's understudy and then successor, and has claimed he learned his trade from Neal. Toney was Watkins' successor. So it is bit of a stretch to imply we singed the wrong Bentford striker when we signed their best striker, and the third bloke was playing for Peterbore until 2020. Neither a retrospectroscope nor a Tardis are, I understand, available to our recruitment team

I may be missing something here. Is it a "Swansman is a wrong 'un" narrative, meaning everything he says is wrong by definition?

If I might just point out that all you've done in the first paragraph is try to prove that Swansman IS wrong about Ings. You've also used the Chailey Jem patented method of using your own stats. In their Premier League careers as a whole, Ings has 60 goals in 163 games and Maupay 26 in 98 (that's a goal every 3.77 games for Neal and 2.72 games for Danny).

You can prove anything you like with facts

Yeah that is not how anything works. As usual.

That the goal is the same size regardless of league and opposition doesnt mean players are going to score as many goals regardless of opposition. In the Eredivisie for example you'll have a second to aim, make sure that your supporting leg is in the optimal position, and then fire the shot, while in the PL you'll have half of that time before someone takes the ball from you. In other leagues you will be able to move into dangerous spaces and get good angles, in the Premier League the defenders and midfielders will prevent you from that. It is similar in most games. In chess, the chessboard always looks the same, yet you'll have a tougher time knocking out the King if you are playing against a World Champion compared to playing against some random bloke on the street.

The mark of a good coach is to have good players because then you win a lot of games and gets considered a good coach. Because good players it what is going to make you win football games. There's good reasons why clubs spend hundreds of millons on players and coffee money on managers/coaches.

Given how heavily data driven Tony’s approach to recruitment is, I think he’s well aware of the potential capabilities of the playing staff, I’d be surprised if recent results were matching his expectations.

I want GP to succeed, but I don’t believe recent results are indicative of the peak capabilities of the squad. I still believe we have to look at how we’re coaching attacking play. I’m not convinced we should be writing off our squad.

What has been laid bare is a reduced tactical flexibility. I don’t have to be a UEFA B licensed coach to realise Dunk - Duffy - Veltman / Other can’t be a 3. With Burn gone, Webster injured, we’ve had to revert to a 4, and it’s had a ripple effect though the team. Arguably 2 of our most threatening attacking options are now full backs rather than wing backs. We have a team of attacking midfielders & no.10s but no out and out wingers (March does his absolute best).

All our best football / results have come from playing in a 3 but also to have the flexibility to go to a 4 and back again.

So I agree we don’t write off a large portion of the squad, but we also don’t ignore that decisions and injuries have left us short of being able to play the tactical options that have proved to be the most successful.

I don't know how much GP had to do with the Burn sale but it has had a negative effect and - if this poor form continues - could even lead to him losing his job.

I wonder if GP now regrets this transfer - or not insisting upon a replacement.

Anyone who suggests he should be sacked should come up with a suitable alternative who is ready to be parachuted in now - I don't see many candidates.

GP probably said ok to BDB moving but I really dont think he wanted it as he has shown a lot of confidence in Dan over the years. Dan probably really wanted to go though. In hindsight if GP knew Webster would suffer another long term injury I think either BDB or Leo Östigård would still be in the squad.

To have Ostigard, Clarke and Van Hecke all out on loan and not to be able to recall any of them was not ideal. You'd think the club would have a compensation package for such an eventuality. Maybe I'm missing something.

I understand why Van Hecke wasnt recalled, when a player is making such progress you might not want to interrupt it. Clarke dunno, fair chance WBA played a loan fee for him as he is established in the Championship, pretty much ruling out a recall clause. Östigård however was sent home from Stoke and rather than rushing him to Italy I feel the club could have had a bit more patience.

I still find it so odd how football fans forget that during a good run you will soon go on a bad run, and during a bad run, you will soon go on a good run. It really is truly bizarre. Unless Potter gets sacked, which is highly unlikely, at some point relatively soon we will win a few games and it will be back to how amazing he is again. I find it astonishing how people just never seem to learn, and how utterly thick so many football fans are. I'd love to see a club owned by the fans who get to make the big decisions. It would be hilarious.

Potter is a very good, relatively young and inexperienced manager doing a decent job. He has the potential to become a real top class coach, but that will take a few more years and could go either way. Which is exactly the sort of manager we want at our level. When he goes, we will replace him with a similar prospect.

It would be nice if he could work out how to win at home soon (tomorrow, ideally). Although I genuinely think the fans should take a portion of that responsibility / blame as well.

Oh shock, it’s happening.

Maybe this time people can remember when we start having some wobbly results again, which we will. Obviously that’s too much to ask of football fans though.

You quoted yourself from some random point in the past. Pathetic. We can all do that Commander Hindsight

Sometimes bad runs don’t get any better as an Albion fan surely the relegations in the past have taught you that.

Jenas mentioned, post match, that Brighton fans didn't appreciate GPotts.

The concensus in the pub was that a lot of people who don't rate him don't go to games. It certainly is a minority who don't rate not the majority.

I think there are a few ST holders on here who don’t rate him. What can you do?

You can keep some of the people happy some of the time but you cannot keep all of the people happy all of the time.

Their loss. I think he’s the best manager, tactically, we have ever had by a country mile. I am loving watching us, they are looking for fault all the time. Who is having the most fun?

He is doing a fabulous job. If he can get us scoring more goals and give us a plan B to break down disciplined sides then he will get poached by a top team

I bet the 'fan' who spent the whole poor run blaming the players and stating the manager has next to no impact on the result is gutted now.

I was loud wrong as I was setting up the FACT that I bet they'd do a complete 180 and attempt to give GPott credit.

These 6 points are Graham's, quite how this happens I just don't know.
I have no idea how the worst of t'Albion 21/22, can be the same squad as the best Albion.
