Is going out of the cups a good thing

Gus says we can concentrate on the league, but the cup runs last year must have generated a few quid, yet we are led to believe that we still made losses, ie price increases at the Amex. If that is the case surely that means less money available next year. Gus can't have it both ways. What are others thoughts or does going out of the cups help achieve the "holy grail"???

Well a good cup run does generate extra funds. But it seems because we don't have strength in depth within the squad that Gus would rather concentrate on trying to achieve promotion on a limited budget!!

I think the FA cup can bring in some money. Last year we made a bit out of the League Cup but only in exceptional circumstances - the Sunderland game was quite full cos of it being such early days at the Amex, can't imagine it being much more full than Kuipers' testimonial if it happened this season, and the chances of drawing a team like Liverpool are, well, 6 out of however many teams are left in R2/R3. And even then chances are its a midweek away in a half empty stadium against their reserves. We have probably made more than average by being on TV the other night.

That said, as one of those who went last night I am pissed off with how we played.

If we draw a top-half Premier League side then we'll probably sell out. Any lower opposition and I reckon it would be 16000-20000.

But I don't think leaving the League Cup is a bad thing, winning the games themselves generates relatively little money compared to the FA Cup. You'd get more from the TV companies!

No. But mitigated if the reward is a trip to Stoke.
