Is Falmer now going to have a capacity of 30k?

I've been told that there's been talk on NSC about the Albion increasing Falmers planned capacity? I've looked through NSC for it but can't find a thread on this anywhere. Is my mate telling me for no-reason weird lies or Is this actually true?

its a lie its been discussed recently. but yeah, its suggested that the stadium has been designed so a future expansion is possible.

Actually I do think someone mentioned it, but it won't happen (yet)

No point we need to get 22,500 fans first prior to spending any further money with no guaranteed revenue return.

Unless Bloom is rich beyond belief.............................

Even if he is I would prefer player investment at present, hardly likely we will hit crowd figures of 22,500 from day one however I will happily accept I am wrong if we do.

They'll have to prove a need to increase capacity first so we'd have to be consistantly selling out present capacity or have some other reason which is in the national interest whilst demonstrating that the surrounding infrastructure could take such an increase. The Environmental Statement would be an interesting read.

They have left the corners of the ground empty. It wouldn't take much to fill them with a few thousand seats. Very shrewd.

Yes but look how quickly clubs get into the prem once a shiney new stadium is complete. I reckon if we're to stay in the Prem we'll be needing something bigger than Fratton Park.
A 22,000 capacity is big in league 1 but average at best in the championship and small in the Prem. It wouldn't be a bad idea increasing it now rather than later would it? and surely cheaper?

FFS, which world do you live in dreamer? Lets get the bloody thing built first, never mind becoming a Premiershit force by 2014. Or will you give Tony Bloom until 2015? :wozza:

Lets get out of league 1 before getting ahead of ourselves and having a 30k seater stadium less than half full. Last thing we want is to be in league 1 having invested millions more on expanding the stadium when we arent even filling the 22k, and getting into a mess.

The club has permission for 22,500 seats. If they had origionally had plans for a 30k seater, Falmer probably would never have been approved. Besides 30k is far too big for our needs. Yes, if you look at the stadium it has clearly been designed to hold bigger capacities in the future, the biggest obstacle was getting the bloody thing built.

I'm no builder but watching the construction process so far it looks like it would be a doddle to fill the corners in and pretty quick. Chuck up some retaining walls, chuck in a load of chalk, pat down, cover in steel meshy things then form some steps. Simples

Might as well wait until we need the seats though or else falmer could look a bit empty in this league or even the league above.

My guess would be that should we be selling out week on week or get to the premiership one day then the corners will be filled in between the end of one season and the start of the next. I am guessing that the transport issue is more of an issue that the actual construction and installation of the seats themselves however.

When I went to the 1901 presentation at Falmer they said that the capacity can be increased, the footings will actually be in place in the corners so if necessary this expansion could take place during the season. However, as others have said, this won’t happen unless we can prove the need for extra seats.
