the photo is pretty obviously of an african child, not just a black one. the road and surroundings suggest so.

if bof is being satirical to the point of mocking the percieved seriousness of the 'leon knight' situation in comparison to the real problems of the world, he has my blessing. yet i feel this is unlikely. however, even if it is true, others are not likely to see it this way - and the views of others must be the views taken into account when judging sensitivity.

bof, i'm sure you are not racist but appreciate that you can see some people would find this offensive and commend you for changing the avatar.

Thats a fairly big pile of wank right there.

And I'm POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE f***ing APESHIT (because I don't chant "town full of PAKI'S").

The avatar was funny, and not at all offensive.

In the same way that Chris Morris saying that "Builders or Blacks" are "less-educated" than him IS funny and satirical (context context context), but 200 pig-thick morons chanting "town full of bombers" isn't even vaguely funny.

This is exactly the kind of "lets all walk on eggshells in case we offend anyone" bullshit that we have to put up with these days. Black has become a dirty word.
Any innocent comment (or picture in this case) can be taken out of context and made to look like it contains racial undertones when it quite clearly doesn't.
This thread was a wind up FFS, safeway obviously went fishing and it decended into this.

but sensitivity must be subjective. what is offensive to someone might be perfectly acceptable to someone else. it smack of self-righteousness to suggest that individually, you can correctly gauge what is and is not acceptable. society as a whole defines what is taboo and sets its own boundaries. so, if the majority of people are offended by bof's avatar, it's offensive. and i would suggest that most would.

not at all. i'm suggesting that it's not up to me, or anyone individually, to determine the rules we live by collectively.

having said that, i know i am better than you.

Why are you better than him?

Last time I saw you, you just looked like another student, maybe you did not speak to us on the train as you thought you were better than the rest of us?

oh, it's like that, is it? fine - hide behind the anonymity that nsc affords. if your true self is something you wish to conceal, it must be of questionable value.
