Ive just in the progress of getting a mortgage
iv got 2 year Fixed at 4.99 payment are around 820 pound pm
Should get me through the bump in the market

Good, looks like my decision last year to take a 10 year fixed at 5.15% looks a good one.

To think some of my mates gave me some stick for it. Who's laughing now.

Seriously, no he doesn't. Almost the first thing Labour did in 1997 was to put interest rates in the hands of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England, not the Treasury.

They're supposed to make their decisions in the best interests of inflation, and the government's target is 2.5%

If the inflation rate strays too far away from 2.5% for too long, the governor of the Bank of England has to write the Chancellor a letter saying he's sorry. This is true.
