I would imagine the aim was to get noticed. If this thread is anything to go by, that, if nothing else has been achieved. Large, captive audience. I may not agree with the action, but I can see a logic to it, yes.

Glad you have clarified that if there is a serious accident caused by the protests and people are injured or killed you would still support their actions which answers one of my previous questions. I wasn't conflating anything ... just asking if there was any limit to your support for climate protesters actions.

I was, we live in a windy rather than extremely cold country, draught proofing is as much an issue (from chats with archirects and developers over the years).

I commend all environmentalists and have done since I was a kid.

But why are these people brave? Yellow vests, an orchestrated plan and the fact that drivers won't simply mow people down, makes this doable. They haven't been injured.

But others really suffer as a result. 5live last week took calls from for example an NHS consultant who couldn't perform surgeries that day, also from a specialist meant to be on their way to a critical meeting with an extremely vulnerable person with special needs. All scuppered.

I'm going to ditch the 'bags for life' and start getting the 5p carrier bags when I go shopping as well. And will make absolutely sure I only use them once, before throwing them in the sea.

Sadly, none of those would get them noticed, bar breaking into somewhere. But where? And what impact does that action need to have.

Maybe a mass sit down on the tracks to stop you getting to the Amex and other grounds would work.

I totally agree - I think the tactics are wrong and actually doing harm to their cause but they've got what they wanted in terms of national coverage and raising the topic in the consciousness of the nation. I think they're doing themselves reputational harm all over the place and longer term I think they'll regret making such a divisive tactic their opening salvo.

Nah, don’t you believe it, these “brave souls” will try and win the hearts and minds of the majority of the population and their support soon by disrupting air travel, you know peoples long awaited holidays, trips overseas to see relatives they haven’t seen etc etc [emoji2357]

I totally agree - I think the tactics are wrong and actually doing harm to their cause but they've got what they wanted in terms of national coverage and raising the topic in the consciousness of the nation. I think they're doing themselves reputational harm all over the place and longer term I think they'll regret making such a divisive tactic their opening salvo.

I think the tactics are dead right. It's making it tangible for you. You don't want your journey disrupted, and you are talking about it.

It's also simply not possible to harm the reputation of a cause that is about saving the planet. These people aren't all crusties anymore, they are a broad spectrum of people.

I'd love to hear from a campaigns expert (sitting in the middle professionally, not with a bias either way on climate change), on his or her view on the effect of their sustained blocking of key arteries. Purely common sense says box clever to get the majority on your side and therefore a rump of politicians.

As a litmus test I'm trying to see Starmer and front bench Labour's clear view on these M25 protests and genuinely can't find it.

As per my previous post. If you truly want to be successful then you need to inconvenience those in the position to make the changes needed. It’s hearts and minds and this has effectively pissed off the very people you need on board. It’s counter productive, poorly thought out and plays into the hands of those they should be ‘hurting’. Boris couldn’t give a shit about Joe public so this isn’t going to change a thing.

Indeed. These protestors have chosen a Corbyn approach to the problem. Just arouses hostility and ridicule but gives them some war stories at the next meeting.
