Is there an Asian...or more precisely an Indian supermarket or even a smaller shop in Brighton where i could get some of the more unusual stuff for making proper curries and Indian cuisine ?

There used to be something similar down Kensington gdns or somewhere but haven't been there for years.

Ta muchly

I'll get you a take-away from the Ganges tonight and bring it to work for you tomorrow. Eat it cold or bung it the micro-wave or the oven if you've got the time.
What do you fancy?

I'm doing an "Indian" evening in a few week JS. I shall be cooking 4 or 5 Indian dishes plus the usual "sides" such as chutneys, ratias, popudoms and rice etc.

I'll only be doing small portions as all the guests (5 or 6 families) will be bringing one of their own and the idea is to try as many home made curries and sundries as possible.

So no sauces outta jars, no shop bought stuff and nothing from restaurants !!!!

Of course, your good self and S are more than welcome to join us.

Don't know if a tin of patra will be allowed onto your menu then, as can't see how you can make patra yourself here. It would be a shame to leave it out of your starters. Does liberating it form it's tin, chopping it into slices and frying it off in toasted sesame seed oil count as preparation ?

No problem.
Perhaps another time?
I'll ask for a few cookery tips tonight instead.

It's worth bearing in mind that the St James's St Taj is nowhere near as good as the Western Rd one in terms of range (and, weirdly, quality - don't know how that works).

Taj is good but expensive and the spice range isn't as good as it could be. But the collection tins do give an added bonus of keeping the nut-jobs and bigots away.

The Taj is great place and always leave a few pounds for the gaza folks being slaves in their own country.

Or so you are informed, have you any ida how many of these "charities" are just fronts fundraising for terrorism?

As promising as the direction this thread is heading in looks, I'm going to have to interrupt it to announce that on Friday night I noticed the Londis by the Duke of Pork's sells the kingsize bags of Cheese Balls, i.e. circular versions of Wotsits. I've had to travel to Eastbourne to buy these before. Well fuckin chuffed.

It depends what you're looking for but the Thai shop in the market is pretty good for spices but it doesn't have breads or flours if that's you want. Supernarkets aren't too bad these days either.

It's Diwali next weekend so I think we're going to celebrate by having an Indian feast too.
