Indian cold callers

This last fortnight I have had about 3 calls everyday asking what television I have.
Anyone else have the same?
They are reading off some text as its the same every time.
Every time you answer them they say" thats a good choice"
Is there anyway of stopping the calls as its infuriating when you have to stop what your doing( painting etc) just to get these cold callers.
I'm in the TPS but this makes no difference

I always go along with cold callers for 10 seconds and then say "that's interesting, do you mind if I just turn my bath tap off". I then put phone down and get on with my life. I am not sure how long they hang on line for, but never there when I come back 15 minutes later!

Way out west
I answer my phone with "hello"...if nobody says anything sensible within five seconds the receiver goes back down again.

when someone is calling from a power-dialler you always get a short silence when it puts you through to a voice. Plenty of time to hang up.

Can't be that cold in India surely! As soon as i realise it is one of those cold calls from abroad i press the star and hash keys on my phone as someone told me once that this can throw you number out of the system.....not sure if that works though but i don't get many these days

Pisses me off because these calls just get displayed as 'international' and I cant ignore them because my work is based in the US and I never know which is which.

I've heard the same but likewise not proved it works.

I was just about to suggest that but obviously not an option in your case!

I got official advice which amounted to do "put the phone down if you hear an Indian accent". The calls cannot be blocked.

Everyone sign up to this. TPS
If a salesperson calls up trying to sell you something, just say you're on the Telephone Preference Service, they apologise for bothering you and hang up.
Works a treat, also very satisfying.

I know it's wrong, and I should be crucified for doing it,but,I always speak back to them in a very bad Indian accent saying I don't understand what they are saying - works a treat, and never get repeat call from them.

Exactly. The only person who really uses my landline these days (as opposed to my mobile) is my Mum. Any telesales people calling always use a headset which means there's a pause while they ascertain if the response is a person or a voicemail. That split second pause allows me, unfailingly, to deduce whether it's someone I know or a cold caller (am
in the TPS but it still happens. I pick up the phone with my finger on the Reject Call button, & as soon as I detect the pause when I pick up, I press it. Job done.

I went through a phase of winding up cold callers. I had a call from a local double glazing firm who said "We have a surveyor in your area, what time can he call ?" I replied "If you send him round I will kill him, cut him up and eat him"
The caller went quiet (that's always good, means they are off script) and then said "are you serious ?". I'm sure there was a slight quiver in her voice.
Mrs H said later "you can't say things like that" but I told her that if they ring me, then they are fair game.

Whoever told you that is having you on I'm afraid! Dialler lists are essentially database tables that have a blank space for a call outcome assigned to the record once the call is finished either by the agent or by the dialler - this is the only way you would get taken off the list (unless your on the TPS or ask them to remove you)

i had a conservatory company all ready to come around and measure up a few years ago, after 20 minutes on the phone with them, almost agreeing to buy their most expensive model.

they gave in when i told them my address was the top floor of a block of flats!!!
