One of the Walker Bros, but can only recall "Joanna" (Ballad) from that list but his most famous tune surely has to be the contrastingly up-beat JACKIE!

Great, then you are candidates to investigate him further.
He was the main vocalist for "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore", which will probably get a crappy upbeat boy-band re-tread one day soon.

Went a bit strange recently though.
'Tilt' was well out there, and I think I'll probably steer clear of 'The Drift'.

Scott Walker's "30th Century Man" is booked for Duke of Yorks, Brighton on 27th November at 6.30pm.

Apparantly he was at the Dome in 1968 prob. about 3 yrs after The Sun Ain't Gonna.......

Love both of 'em (as well as the older stuff). And I recently bought the first four solo albums on CD as a birthday present for my stepdad (the man who introduced me to Scott Walker, as well as Brighton (the town) and the Albion! - what a star).

An absolute legend - stunning voice, mad lyrics, bonkers arrangements. What more could you want?

Yep, and I have the programme from that concert. He was supported by The Herd (included "the face of 1968", Peter Frampton) and our very own Mike Stuart Span, who were then known simply as 'The Span' (no, not 'the Spam') who were managed by one of the blokes that ran the little record shop opposite The Dome called 'The Cottage'.

I'm sure some of the decrepit old gits on NSC bought their 2nd-hand records from there.

Indeed. The original post only mentioned some of his early solo material, there was a good reason that The Walker Brothers got those hits before.

Incidentally, the other two 'Walkers' (they were not surnamed 'Walker' nor were they brothers!) also had solo careers after the band split. They were Americans who got together on the West Coast before coming to Britain and enjoying a successful career here.
Scott Engel (his name before taking 'Walker' as a stage-nom de plume) had several records out previous to forming the Walkers, who were probably instigated on the successful coat-tails of The Righteous Brothers and The Lettermen.

Gary ('Walker') Leeds cut some singles that were rather good, after the Brothers split the first time. These are more fuzz-guitar-laden psych or mod-beat, and feature him in a group framework more than as a solo vocalist. His album with his band 'Rain' was only issued in Japan, but it's not bad.
