Where is the green? I know the pitch is all high tech but surely grass needs time to mature and develop a strong root system? Turfs need time to settle otherwise the players will be kicking up the joints. You cannot rush a nice piece of grass.

Don't panic, there is masses of time. Grass will grow vigorously and strongly above 10 degrees C. We already know that the pitch is part artificial, part natural, so the framework will already be in place. The natural grass will just grow in between the synthetic and would be ready in less than 6 weeks. They will use a fast growing strain ( e.g Canadian ) and the pitch will be ready a month before kick-off..i.e mid-June.

seeded last week - a close inspection should just be showing some green coming through now and by next week you should be able to see it on the webcam.

WE HAVE A NEW HOME !!

I don't think there is any artificial grass as such. As I understand it, there are fibres incorporated into the soil that the seed is grown in, to help create a more resilient and consistent surface.

What is Fibrelastic? Recommended pitches for top-class professional football and rugby

I have very strong suspicions that they really do know what they are doing.

Hmmm I'm not so sure. Of all the pictures I've seen of the stadium all the grass has been on the OUTSIDE! There's acres of it just lying around in Stanmer Park, the Universities, the fields etc - and yet all the stands point inwards towards a bare patch of earth!

Major, major design fault. I'm amazed it hadn't been spotted before now.

Having admired the Withdean pitch for a few years now, which used to be a quagmire during the winter, I reckon they may just pull this Falmer pitch off in the nick of time.

I reckon that if you go down to b and q and get a few pallets every week it will be ready quick time and if dick goes on a Wednesday we can get a decent pensioners discount.

Pitch Problems ?

No worries about the grass but looks like we may have had a visit from a fox last night judging by the disturbance bottom left on the pitch area.

I wish I shared your confidence. I mean, it's easy to overlook something like the football pitch when you're spending nearly £100 million on a stadium, purpose built, for playing/watching football.

Exactly, lets pray we have nets for the goals and corner flags by the time we kick off, they're bound to forget!
