If you don’t like video games, you're in the wrong thread.

And, yes, the Xbox 360 is arguably a better buy right now, BUT if you're after a PS3...

Virgin Megastores (called Zavvi from tomorrow) have a VERY good deal on at the mo.

* PS3 60GB (has media card slots and backwards compatibility with PS2, unlike new, cheaper 40GB version) - RRP £350
* Extra controller - RRP £35
* Your choice of TWO games from: Motorstorm, Resistance Fall of Man, Formula 1 Championship, Heavenly Sword, Genji, Ridge Racer - RRP £40 each

Total RRP - £465

Bundle price - £350

That's pretty good anyway, but if you have a Virgin credit card, you get an extra 10% of the full RRP (£46.50) making the total just £303.50!

That effectively makes the console less than £200.

Oh, and once you've bought the package you should get away with taking one of the 'Sony six' games back and switching for, say, FIFA 08 or PES 2008 for £10 extra.

[Not every Virgin store has this bundle - phone to check]

I shall be purchasing the same deal (at least, I think it's the same deal, it's bloody similar if not) from my local Woolies on Friday, seeing as I'll get it cheaper from there.

Staff discount?

Correct, which will make it £280 for that bundle (or, as I say, a very similar one if it's not identical).

On an unrelated note, what kind of a stupid name for a shop is 'Zavvi'?

Haha, its not (always) as bad as you might imagine it to be, and I can think of worse jobs to do.

That is a good deal. I brought my nipper a similar bundle of PS3 60GB with 2 of those games, extra controller, an hdmi (?) lead and Fifa 08 for £389 a few weeks back which I didnt think was too bad either.

Aye, not bad at all.

But, to clarify, it's not the £350 for PS3+games+controller which is particularly good (although it's not bad), it's the extra £46.50 off with the Virgin credit card which makes it.

BTW, does Guy Jr create a version of his dad in Fifa? And who does he play for?

I genuinely had no idea that computer games were so expensive these days (very out of touch...) Have most parents on here spent that kind of money at one time or another? Is it possible in this day and age to say "You're not having one of those - go and kick a ball around, ride your bike or read a comic..."?

:D nice work from baby there - random CAPItalISation...!!
interesting re. the games consoles... I would have guessed that there must be some people who don't have them but I wouldn't know how many... the availability of plenty of other more expensive activities is obviously one scenario - I wonder if anyone in a more average, urban, setting has successfully achieved a video games free household?

Most of my boys friends have the same kind of stuff so I guess it is hard to say no sometimes, although he saves his pocket money to buy the games for it. By the sounds of it we are getting off lightly as speaking to some of his friends parents about Xmas they are spending fortunes on new computers for their kids bedrooms!! Kids are expensive full stop!

she likes the little light that comes on and off when you hit caps lock.

i would quite happily have every games console under the sky at our house, but mrs starry is very anti all those sorts of things and always has been. not a battle i really want to fight with her.

not many at the school have the consoles either. we have never been in a "joe has an xbox, why can't i have one..." situation. i guess we have been lucky in that respect.

like race said, kids are expensive whether it's consoles, clothes, hobbies, sports. mrs starry just spent over a hundred pound on some bloody bamboo nappies for a baby that is not yet even born. ridiculous. bamboo?

You need to come to some kind of deal then, an endless supply of bamboo nappies in exchange for a PS3 or the like! Sounds fair to me!
