If you were the manager of a team and you had a clause in your contract that each time a youth team player played for the first team you would get a bonus would you:

a. Play as many youth team as possible in the hope that one or more makes it and at the same time you are earning money.

b. Completely disregard it and not consider it in your team selection.

I think that if players were equal I would tend to go with the youth player.

In his defence, I don't think it was mud slinging or shit stirring...Just an innocent question - a crap one mind you, but innocent :lolol:

What are you on about ?

This is a situation that I think could happen at any club and nobody is suggesting that it exists here.

If I was the chairman of a club and I considered that it was prudent to give the manager an incentive to use youth players, assuming that they were good enough, and thus avoid high wages and transfer fees as they will all be on low wages, why shouldnt I put a clause in the managers contract to encourage him.

We must remember that there are clubs in far far worse financial straights than us so I am sure that there is a club somewhere that has a chairman that has thought of it.

To be honest, it's a shame this isn't a policy at some of the big clubs like Arsenal or United - English football would be in far better shape!

Or are we the only club with no money according to the fans.

Just thought of a classic example of club that would benefit by it Crawley Town.

Don't think United are the best of examples...

Fletcher, Richardson, O'shea, Brown, Neville, Giggs.....not to mention their previous success with the 'you'll never win anything with kids' lot.

Arsenal on the other hand, how many English youth team players have come up through the ranks? Chelsea?

Can anybody be certain that it isnt a clause in Fergusons contract seeing as how many they bring through the ranks.

Under the new age descrimination legislation that came into power TODAY a manager / chairman would probably be sued for actively instigating a team selection policy that takes 'age' as any element of its basis.

I read about this new law which stipulates that you can advertise for graduates but must not give any hint as to them being recent graduates. Would that in fact make such a clause if it existed illegal be cause the fact is not being advertised for specifically youth players.
