Can anybody tell me if at there previous clubs
Burn played at full back or wing back
Ali played at centre forward
Argi played at centre forward
Veltman played at wing back
White played at full back
Bernardo played at wing back

Ben White is a great example, played in 3 different positions this season which is his 1st at this level. He's on a hiding to nothing.

Dan Burn was like a sacrificial lamb against Leicester!

Ali J usually gets dropped from the squad if he scores a goal.

Cant think of any successful manager that dicks around this much. Even Ranieri had stopped that by the time he was at Leicester and won the league.

I am just confused why we have not stuck with a side. I appreciate lallana is injury prone but if fit then isn’t our team obvious? Is is basically how we started the season plus Welbeck ( and Sanchez)

Sanchez

White dunk Webster
Lamptey bissouma alzate March
Lallana
Welbeck Maupay

If lallana can’t play then take your pick of groß propper alexis or trossard.

Some of the decisions are odd and suggest over thinking. Picking Dan burn because he is good in the air. He isn’t. He is just tall.

Considering the frequency of games and the lack of wins, yeah, I would be tinkering with the team. Our medical team also test the players regularly and advise when a player is at greater risk of injury, and should be rested, and this will play a part.
If we had all the info, I am sure the selections would make more sense, I don't feel any player in the squad is not capable of playing a part in a winning team, so let Potter pick them and accept that it isn't a random pulling of names out of the hat, and he will have his reasons.

Until last night he had started 18 different players. That includes 2 keepers, 3 red card suspensions and any injuries. Not sure I totally areed....until last night.

Fully understand backroom staff knows who needs a rest but it is the playing so many out of position is the problem. A joke playing Ali at centre forward with 3 strikers plus Trossard on bench. Nothing more certain last that we would go one down and 2 attackers would come on

I've been saying for weeks now that his tinkering is a problem. Players don't know their jobs, they can't found form and even when they play steel he drops them.

I'm sure it's the reason so many seem shot of confidence.

This with bells on.
Aren't they doing a pantomime this Christmas ?
The rehearsals for this could be the problem.

No, and personally I think that's are main problem. Non of the players are getting an understanding of each other on the pitch can't be doing any of them any good , im 100% sure if we just picked the same side for 6 weeks barring injuries we would improve massively.

I got it last season. He didn’t know the players, they didn’t suit his system and he was changing the way we played.

There’s little excuse this year. Not to the extent it’s happening anyway, even with questions about fitness and scheduling.

However, it does also beg the question of why we went after three very injury prone players in the Lallana, Welbeck and Veltman, all in the same summer. We’ll always struggle for consistency if we put our eggs in those baskets.

No, but I haven't any qualifications or experience in football coaching.

I would look to set a formation and tactics and pick a line up to facilitate that plan, changes would be made within the starting line up but I'd have a preferred 11 and look to play that regularly. The benefit of that is to build partnerships and clear expectations between players of where to run and who to look for in any passage of play

Careful talking with sense, clarity and objectivity based on facts will get you nowhere sunshine!

Much better to know more than the entire coaching and medical staff of the club and believe it's still 1981 when you can win the first division on muddy pitches using only 14 players that all drink and smoke because continuity trumps everything.

I would not have described his position last night as centre forward, not sure what I would call it though, right of a front 3 mostly, but he swapped with Gross on the left of the 3, with Mac Allister being mostly central but deeper. But he is the only player other than Maupay that has hit more than 20 in a league season. Why not try Ali up front when everyone else has been struggling for goals lately?

Yes

Not much point in having a 25 man squad if you're only going to use 11 players

in addition to injuries, suspensions, Covid, the shits and tantrums.

I would have started Maupay or Welbeck ahead of MacAllister last night though.

Alzate
Lallana
*New Striker*
Welbeck

Gross/Propper/Maupay/Zeqiri/Burn/Steele/Trossard/Molumby/Veltman/Ali J/Izquierdo waiting in the wings.

I would have expected last nights team to be the one more likely in cup games but not in the league that's pure madness. To expect players with limited game time to gel is a thing of fantasy. Not only that expect them to play in different positions.

This tinkering is beyond a joke.

We have a squad that should be in a better position than it is currently. This thing about too much playing is rubbish. Most players love playing and again most would prefer it to being sat in the stand watching.

Tinker tinker until we get relegated. We just don't look like getting a win.........ever!

I think what GP is doing is demotivating the players because even having a good game does not mean you play the next game .Although i don`t think Ali J or Alexis are any worse then Trossard or Gross we needed to play with at least one striker .GP is just trying to be clever with his selection ,to many players at once without a lot of game time .I think he is taking away the players confidence and belief. The big teams seem to be able to play Champions League and Premier League without major team changes .GP has to work out his best team and work around that IMO but its not going to happen .

Totally disagree. Its clear to me that the players do know their jobs. Excluding Propper, all have played within the system which hasnt significantly changed this season. All the players last night knew their jobs, when to press, cutting off passing lanes, positioning etc. The problem isnt that they dont know their jobs, its the ability to deliver on the pitch.

I love that GP adapts and uses the squad on many occasions, however, I do think that there are some changes that are not necessary. Welbeck a real injury risk I assume.. Lallana, injured I assume, and Ben White maybe just needs a rest - error in the West Ham game. BUT, I didn't understand Maupay decision, and March not as left wing-back seemed odd, albeit I thought Bernardo did well. I would like to see Bernardo tried more often at the Left CB role.. his pace/athleticism I think allows him to be more effective 1v 1 and in recovery than BDB, but I also think we get more out of Webster on the right hand side of the three.
