And it's disappointing to see the number of people who seem to have no ambition for the Club.

imo
same as. falmer has nothing to do with this question and obviously that is the number one priority at the moment. nevertheless, in terms of positions in div 1 i would not settle straight away for 4th from bottom. that position is a very bad season and i can see us doing better. i can't see the albion getting above mid table but i do have a bit more aspiration and ambition for the club than some other people on this site quite clearly.

No, because I think we can do better.

I think it has quite a lot to do with this question since the capacity at Withdean seriously limits the club's income and therefore cash for both fees and wages. Remember we're up against clubs who get in excess of 20000 gates and have the quality of players that reflect this.
We'll get a few signings but without a good clearout to reduce the wage bill the team will be essentially the same as last season which at times wasn't good enough for div 2 let alone div 1.
I'm not saying that it's my prediction for the season but the question was would you settle for 4th bottom, and for our 1st season in div1 in the situation we're in survival alone would be a major achievement.
I think its unfair to say people who would be happy with survival alone are unambitious. I would say its more a case of being realistic about our position as opposed to having my head in the clouds.
Good luck to Mcghee and the boys and I hope we do well next season. I just think its going to be a hard slog.

Combined with a YES Falmer vote, 4th bottom will do just fine - so long as it's a worst-case scenario and we're actually aiming for at least mid-table. It will do the Falmer project no good at all to be languishing in Division Two on the opening day of the stadium.

Hard slog is fine. The Albion is good at that. Important thing is to get some points on the board early season.

accepted but the question to this thread was
If you were offered 4th bottom now would you accept it?
the point i was making therefore was that falmer wasn't the issue in the question. understanderbly it was brought as it is certainly relevant for our division one prospects but without this in mind, i still think that we can achieve a higher place next season staying at the withdean and at the same time be fairly realistic. it'll be tough but i don't think we'll go down and back to div 2 straight away in my opinion.

The bookies reckon we are better than Burnley, Rotherham, Gillingham and Crewe. 74.29 per cent of NSC think we are worse than at least one of those teams.

I remain disappointed.

We should at least start the season aiming to finish higher than Stoke, Plymouth, Derby, Watford, Preston, Burnley, Rotherham, Gillingham and Crewe.

Why shouldn't we?

Surely the question was simply asking "if you could guarantee not being relegated next season would you take it?"
That's why so many people have voted yes.???

Is 4th bottom ambitious enough for you? Or do you want more than just survival this season?

I'd accept it.........like a shot. We really cannot afford to go down again.

I know it wasn't in the question but yourself and at least one other poster said that those of us that would settle for 4th bottom lacked ambition.
I was just giving some of my own reasons (which I'm sure others share) as to why it wasn't about lacking ambition but more about being happy to consolidate our position after achieving more than we possibly should have done last season.

I think we will do better than we think. We have had 1st division experience before.

I think we'll end up 16 or 17th

Is this going to be one of those threads that's going to come back and haunt some of us when someone drags it up at the end of next season. Or are we just waiting for the inevitable "Where are we going to finish next season" poll?

Hear hear FFS let's not start off in the wrong frame of mind - did Wigan go into last season with the same attitude ?

As far as 'accepting it', I'd be accepting even if we finished bottom.

The lads have done well to win promotion, especially at this time, and if the team are ambitious and play up for the fans yet still lose - then that's what football is about anyway.

I doubt that BHAFC will get into the promotion challenge, but I don't see our club slumping into lethargy or turning into miserable failure.

Personally, I can't remember being more excited about a promotion - perhaps it's the timing in regards to the Falmer quest.

the fact we were a little lucky this season is not a reason to accept a lower position next.

It won't be a lower position because we'll be playing better quality opposition in Div1 so 4th bottom will be a big improvement as far as I'm concerned. If people think that we were lucky and at times we didn't show enough ability in Div2 then it's perfectly understandable that they are going to think we are going to be in for a hard season and be happy if we don't get relegated.
I'm not saying that is all I want. I'm just saying staying in Div1 is priority and anything else the lads achieve is a bonus.
So if I had a choice take 4th bottom now or take your chances then I would take 4th bottom.
