Superphil, I think he was looking for ideas to improve the board, not just a policy of censorship.

I was suggesting ways of improving the site, not at all through censorship. I'm quite happy to discuss any number of subjects, controversial, sensitive or downright ridiculous, but I don’t care for posters who have an agenda, whether puerile (most of them) or just dead set on annoying or upsetting people, or trying to push the limit of what is acceptable to the Mods, or decent people in general.

The idea about restricting posting rights is regularly adopted elsewhere, and probably weeds out most of problems with new posters,

Sort out the nsc links section. Put the clubs in their leagues for example and make sure the message boards are well used by the supporters of said club.

- vBookie - there are a few quite hefty vBulletin plugins like vBookie. One I've got my eye on for next season is a predictions one where users would predict Championship scores every week. Unlike past attempts by some honourable NSCers, it drags the match scores down automatically and then re-calculates tables. Little manual effort required so more chance of succeeding. NSC will supply monthly/seasonal prizes etc. vBookie could be used for a competition also.

Great idea, people pay say £5/£10 year & say 20% can go towards the running costs of NSC. Especially if little effort required

I think the problem is that many people have a different definition of

decent people in general

.

Even amongst the relatively small sample at mod towers we have different tolerances and dislikes of individual issues, whether it to be to disallow certain words, (the 'c' word has been deleted for some time, but '******' and 'Spastic' are allowed by the system, although may result in posts being removed and bans employed).

As for the puerile stuff, I have read every edition of Viz for the last 25 years, and love it, and enjoy toilet humour that some may find offensive. Should that be banned too?

Somehow NSC manages to muddle through, and a contributory factor to that is the fact that there is a light hand on the tiller, a degree of self censorship by the vast majority of posters(which is sometimes forgotten in the heat of the moment), and the fact that fans from other clubs are made to feel welcome here.

Remember, had it not been for a 'newbie' Plymouth fan posting on the internet, there would have been no Fans United, no 5-0 thrashing of Hartlepool, no staying up on goal difference that season, and perhaps no Albion. I therefore would strongly defend the right of anyone to join and contribute to the board from day one.

We have other Albion sites that historically have taken a far more draconian approach to posts, and they have all floundered, and then there is NSP, which is a free for all, and that is as good as dead too.

I understand people get frustrated with the wind up's but blocking newbies from posting is wrong in my opinion. The Albion is growing, NSC is growing, the days of the superfans with 40,000 posts since 2003 being the only ones on here are gone. This is a new era, with new fans, this is a fact. I agree entirely that moderation is required, I liked the idea of new users being forced to read the house rules before posting with HUGE letters outlining banning offenses, that way they have only themselves to blame but the majority of new posters are genuine fans with genuine questions and want to be involved. My second point is that new users are treated badly in my opinion, they get the piss taken out of them from the word go, I fully understand it's tongue in cheek and the NSC way and it's great fun, but newbies don't get that. I think we should be encouraging new fans to ditch their Chelsea or Man U shirts and get behind THIS team, OUR team!

Also, bring on anything gambling related I'm well up for that

I must admit that's my view as well. I've read all these suggestions and gone, no, no, f*** no, jeez no, etc. I especially HATE the idea of rep points and split forums - although I DO think it would be a good idea to bring back 'Childish Ramblings' as it served a very good purpose. Did that go as part of Googlegate?

I think one of the good points about this board is that the main forum is not just football and thus a whole lot more interesting because of it. Couldn't agree more about rep points and yes you're right, Childish Ramblings would be a worthwhile return. Get a bit bored with this uber fan snobbery about who and when they should start a thread, what's wrong with freedom of speech ?
