....don't get in one, it's your choice, likewise if you feel safer in a reassuringly expensive Streamline taxi driven by someone who has probably passed their test in Kabul , again it's your choice so get off the Tuk-Tuk operators backs and let the people decide.

Felt fairly safe in a Tuk Tuk in Bangkok, however did meet an Aussie bloke who was covered in cuts and bruises, daft bugger jumped out of one and ended up doing a bit of break dancing across a main road.

I do wish Noobs would stop talking sense. It's ruinig the reputation of NSC being a clique.

However, well said chap/chappess, and couldn't agree more. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Apart from the libellous allegation against Streamline and the City Council's licensing department, this is a somewhat hysterical message.

Are you saying that public transport passengers shouldn't be protected by a licensing system that demands safety from operators? Or that the public are sufficiently well informed about such matters as to make their own minds up? On the basis of what information, given that hardly anyone in Brighton would have had any experience of travelling in one of these vehicles before?

The Traffic Commissioner is holding a Public Inquiry into aspects of the Brighton Tuc-Tuc operation that he himself has issued a licence for. Having attended many such Inquiries, my expectation is that the Commissioner will be scrupulously fair and won't be impressed either by arguments based upon nothing but the commercial interests of competitors, or by public petitions whipped up the Tuc-Tuc operator.

The issue will be a simple one... Is the operator performing in accordance with the conditions of the licence and the registered details of the service? If YES, they'll have nothing to worry about. If NO, they'll be stuffed.

The problem is people don't realise how dangerous they are until they get out, or get hurt.

I doubt the tuk tuk operation has many regular customers.

If the post is libellous, is it not in NSC's interest to remove it?

I think what he's saying is that the taxi firms in the city should stop displaying NIMBYism akin to that of Lewes District Council and accept gracefully a little bit of competition that brightens up the city and puts a smile on people's faces.

The fact that it is libellous won't necessarily result in legal action.

The allegation - that a Streamline taxi is going to be driven by "someone who has probably passed their test in Kabul" - is so patently untrue that no-one would be likely to believe it.

I would be more worried getting into a Streamline taxi driven by someone who hadn't managed to pass their test in Kabul.

Have you been to OT this season? Prices have gone through the roof, and you get the chance to see John O'Shea do his Peter Kay impersonation for 90 minutes every fortnight.
