If you could have been at any musical gig in history, what would it be?

Wasn't that in Zimbabwe or are you talking about the recent concerts? I don't get the not politically correct row tbh. He was playing with black musicians to a mixed audience and heightening the band members profile and music worldwide. The fact that he didn't get permission from ANC seemed to be the big problem, rather than the fact he was playing with black musicians? Or was it that he was making money from the album using musicians from a country with embargos?

Yes sorry the Zimbabwe one

Any of the shows when Rush were touring Permanent Waves in 1980, and Springsteen's two The River tour shows at The Brighton Centre in May '81...

Not a gig in the truest sense but:

The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show - She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand.

Possibly the most important moment in modern music history.

For those that missed the Isle of Wight 1969 and 70. Here is one of my few pictures. I was going to say " got the T shirt" but T shirts in those days were either tie dyed or vests.

I was there but missed all three of these! Guess I would go back in time & drag myself out of the tent or wherever I was.

Always thought The Who + Jimi Hendrix at the Dome in '68 would be my first choice "time traveller" gig. Then again, gutted I missed The Stone Roses at the Escape. It was a midweek gig, early '89 I think. Saw the posters about but hadn't heard of them. A month later they're massive.

Think my Dad went to that Dome gig, he also saw Jimmy Hendrix on hastings pier!

I went to one of the Cream reunion gigs at the Royal Albert Hall a few years back, tickets were like rocking horse shit. Also seen both Paul McCartney and Dylan at the Camden Roundhouse (on seperate occasions).

If I could go back in time I would see the Beatles impromtu gig on the roof of Apple records building in 1969, only lasted 40 minutes but must have been astonishing to anyone who witnessed it.

Can't see the point of being at the Shea Stadium for The Beatles, you wouldn't have heard anything :)

For me, maybe Pink Floyd, any gig really between 1969 and 1980 but especially around 1974 or so - the gig at Wembley 1974 which is on the Experience edition second disk of 'Wish You Were Here' would be a ood example, I reckon.

Also any Genesis gig around 1976-77.

And any XTC gig before they stopped touring :(

Pink Floyd, Earls Court, 1994. Pulse album. Gutted i missed it.

A close second would be ELO at Wembley, 1977, Out of the blue tour. Far too young at 10.
