If you could have been at any musical gig in history, what would it be?

Dinosaur JR / Nirvana / Sonic Youth playing at Reading in 1991.
I was there but missed all three of these! Guess I would go back in time & drag myself out of the tent or wherever I was.

Always thought The Who + Jimi Hendrix at the Dome in '68 would be my first choice "time traveller" gig. Then again, gutted I missed The Stone Roses at the Escape. It was a midweek gig, early '89 I think. Saw the posters about but hadn't heard of them. A month later they're massive.

Queen in Rio, Woodstock or The Beatles on the roof of the Apple Buildings.

Wouldn't have been fussed seeing The Beatles at Shea Stadium as the acoustics were terrible apparently

Hendrix at Woodstock.

Having done a bit of research on Woodstock, most people who said they saw Hendrix live at Woodstock are probably liars - he didn't get on stage until 9am on the Monday morning, and there were as few as 30,000 people there, compared to the peak of just under 500,000 on the Saturday afternoon.

Any one of Dylan's 1975 Rolling Thunder Revue tour just before the release of Desire. The set list is just fantastic as was the quality of music apparently. The musicians are a who's who of American musical legends of the time too.

Got to see them at the Top Rank in 86 but this always looks immense to me.

Ooh...I was at that one. Sorry to rub it in but it was excellent (Talking Heads were support).

I'm amazed at the number of people who have said Woodstock. As TLO says, you wouldn't have seen or heard much. Woodstock was really only good for people who wanted to take a lot of drugs or wander round looking at topless women.

I'm not a big fan of any stadium gig: my choices would have been small venues: Sex Pistols at the 100 Club, Television at CBGBs and most of all The Velvet Underground at any New York venue.

I think most of all, I'd have loved to be in the audience for Le Sacre du Printemps' premiere in 1913 - marvellous scenes.

That was probably the Roger Waters and friends performing The Wall. Lucky to have been at that one as well as Live Aid , Reading 91 etc.
For me I think it would be any of those original Isle of White shows , The Who , Hendrix, The Doors, Free or a mythical 'what if' 2 hour set by The Beatles in 1970. It could include all the great tunes they never performed live when they stopped touring in 1966. The live set at he end of Let It Be but longer and more songs culminating with an encore of the whole of side 2 of Abbey Road album. .
