[Albion] If we sign Nobody ?

If we can go through the season without injuries / suspension / covid or selling all of our key 5 or 6 players then we'll do very well with what we have.

Obviously this won't happen. So the two obvious positions, cover at LWB and a striker, better than what we already have is what we should be trying to sign. No point in buying a squad striker.

Both Maupay and Welbeck are due back for Brentford or possibly Everton - Welbeck has been in training for a week - and we are looking to buy a striker before the window closes. It’s hardly a joke. What would you have done differently. ?

its just short sighted for me. Maupay and Welbeck are good enough but chances of them staying fir the whole season is slim ( hence my point about game 3 and already weakened ).

I would of had at least one more of their level available well before season kicked off.

It doesnt work like that I know.

If we lose points through missed chances on sat then its already costing us is all im saying

Hopefully I'm wrong and we have the 4 quality strikers we can interchange all season and be well clear of the drop

I said at the end of last season that I would be happy to go into this season with the same squad, a year older and a year more experienced.

Don't get me wrong,
I'd still love to sign Cucurella and Núñez, but if we don't where are we ? White has gone, Shane has had his 'Lennon years' (one for the oldies) and has come back, both with superb strengths and very obvious weaknesses, (which apparently GP knows and Arteta doesn't).

Solly is back, Tariq nearly (hopefully). Biss is still here, the youngsters have another year of experience (and the even youngersters are looking good). Disappointed that Andone didn't make the grade when back to fitness, but maybe that is just a positive reflection on Connolly and Zeqiri. Maupay has just turned 25 and Welbeck is 30 FFS.

If this is the squad for 2020/21, I'm happy with that, even though a few on here think that is guaranteed relegation

Is the elephant in the room, that Brighton and Hove Albion can't really afford that much in new acquisitions and we are relying on the continued generosity of our chairman?

I think we've all got so used to Bloom spending millions of HIS money on our club we may sometimes forget that as we've become used to or expectant of it now.

Nobody knows the full extent of TBs wealth or his full portfolio of interests, but suffice to say, with no crowds, lockdowns and the loss of revenue the club has experienced due covid alone, every general indicator suggests the betting/gambling markets were also hit pretty hard......

So whilst as fan I'm desperate to see us get some swashbuckling new striker and go steaming up the league, the pragmatist accepts these are difficult times financially for the club and maybe even for the revenue streams of our amazing benefactor.

I trust he will be doing all he can within his ability and means at present, if that ends up with us going again with broadly the same up top, we should hopefully have enough, and the realist gets why that may be. If he pulls a Nunez et al out if the hat, that's just bonus territory.

I trust in TB to do his level best.

My honest feeling is that we won't sign anybody now - it seems too late.

Good start made and if things fade then we could look at things again in January.

This.

This the realistic view, but most football fans don't live in the real world just wanting to spend monopoly money that in all likelihood we just don't have.

We go into the 3rd game of the season with our 2 striking options as Connolly and zequiri .

Potter just confirmed that both Maupay and Welbeck trained this morning and hopeful of them being involved on Saturday.
So we go into our 3rd game of the season with 4 striking options.

Last season we signed Welbeck as a free agent a few weeks after the window had shut and Moder and Karbownik on the last day.
In 2019 we signed both Webster and Maupay in the last 5 days of the window.

Surely nobody still believes this? In recent times it is very rare that info given on Thursdays about availability reflects the actual team. I'd be amazed if either started or were on the bench. Even being on the bench means nothing as there are players on there now who GP has no intention of playing (Lallana last season is a prime example).

If it is a joke you'll need to explain the punch line.

If we do go against Everton with one of those two, we'll also have the likes of Mac Allister (already scored this season), Moder (already scored this season) and Trossard around. Nothing to worry about.

Let’s see.

I just think that Cucu is almost over the line.

Nunez is clearly more complex but it would seem that we are not too far off the Benfica valuation.
In addition, from the weekend, players with a year left on their contracts like Nketiah & Edouard will surely be available for less than half the quoted £20m. Remember when we gave Barnes to Burnley for £500k? Selling clubs have little option but to cash in at a very low amount.

Leandro 'paint stripper' Trossard is due a few goals, It can't be possible to rattle the woodwork that much forever!

Lallana last season was on the bench 16 times. He was substituted on ...15 times.

As for Maupay then Potter said he was in training this morning and here's a picture of him in training.

I think we've got enough to stay up with last season's squad. The quality coming through is amazing by Albion's historic standards and I really believe we've got one of the best coaches in the country for developing players. A couple of signings in key areas would just be the icing on the cake as then the sky is the limit (well, the glass ceiling we'd hit around 6th place, anyway).

GP said Maupay was training and positive about him being ready. He starts.
And Welbeck would probably be on the bench - he’s on the bench.

We had two CMs covering both the wingback places today. We had absolutely no pace anywhere on the pitch. If we actually want to push on from 16th, new signings are a must. Simple as. Not my money, I know, but it's just blindingly obvious.

This.

Without March & Lamptey on the flanks, we look so very limp when we attack.

Cucu is a ****ing must now. We also need a proper right wing-back for the 90% of games when Lamptey is injured.

Looks like Livramento had another good game today. Such a shame S’ampton nicked him by accepting a shit deal we’d never agree too.

It’s amazing how two wins against two of the worst sides in the division can trick people into thinking our problems are solved. In fact against Burnley we were shockingly bad for 45 mins.

If we fail to get a striker we are going to be right down the bottom again and if we don’t get more Left sided cover we are going to struggle against any decent attacking side every time Solly is out.

We need to make signings, too many players playing out of position today, no proper left or right back back ups and the shape of the team goes out of the window. Also today we were crying out for a striker that can hold the ball up.
