Why are people so gleeful at the thought of playing Greece and fearful of playing Spain or Portugal (as seen here and on several other threads). Greece have shown themselves to be an extremely well-organised side here and remember they caused us a good deal of trouble at Old Trafford in 2001.

Am I the only person on NSC who would rather be playing a rather stuttering Spain or Portugal in the next round? Not that it looks likely, he hastens to add.

If Spain could actualy finish teams off rather than just look pretty around the box then they would have walloped Greece & Russia. They are bound to be a more dangerous opponent than a hard working, but uninspiring Greek team.
As for Portugal, if they manage to beat Spain and get through then they will be riding a huge wave of national emotion and no one will want to face them in the knock outs.
No, surely Greece is a good one for us.

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
At least all the games after the group stages are evening kick offs
That will help us enormously should we make it.

not just on NSC but at the pub everyone was "yeah we want Greece", i kept arguing the fact that who ever we play wont be easy and it does'nt matter who we get IF we get through...fell on deaf ears though!

Oh god I hope so. Then I can stay in bed the morning after. I couldn't stand another Friday morning at work feeling quite as shit as I do at the moment!

I feel confident that Engalnd could live with any of the teams in Group A. However, Greece would be my favourite, they just don't have the big game experience at international level.

A resurgent Portugal or Spain could be tricky, especially as it is virtually a home game for both.
