Before we go to gigs and the like or see elderly relatives we take LFT tests. It's literally free, takes about a minute and provides peace of mind that we're unlikely to be infected and pass on the virus to someone who may not cope well with it.

If everyone did the same (and maybe most do) then it will massively help limit the risk of the family gatherings we all want to enjoy.

Whilst I agree wholeheartedly with the point you’re making, it’s a bit of a stretch to suggest it takes about a minute.

Following government advice it’s over a minute before you can even take the test cassette out of the sealed bag.

My Dad yesterday has been moved to a hospice so likely to be last sadly so absolutely nothing will stand in my way with spending as much time as possible with him this Christmas

I understand yours and others frustration with Covid, but please stop repeating this mantra that it’s only to protect the anti-vaxxers or the wilfully unvaccinated.

There are plenty of people who CAN’T have the vaccine and many, potentially a couple of million, who have had the vaccine, but due to their conditions have no idea if the vaccines are offering them any protection. These are the people that need protecting.

Anyway, as an extremely vulnerable household the current restrictions and threats of lockdown mean nothing to us, as we’ve been living it for the last 20 months.

These people need to be isolated, protected and supported.

The rest of us have to operate as best we can, and dare.

But those who are prancing about unvaccinated by choice alone need to get in the sea.

So, as we have seen before, the rumours and rhetoric around the possibility, and rights and wrongs, of a Christmas lockdown driven by Omicron is looming large on the horizon.

So, if it happens and you have made plans to see family/parents/loved ones this year - would you comply? or would you think to hell with it, not this time?

Personally, with both of my in-laws well into their 80's, i'd not comply. It could be their last (who knows). I think my wife would be broken were the family gathering at ours not to happen. The in-laws have already said they are coming come what may. For 18 months they have hardly left their house, and it's breaking them in so may ways.

Plenty of opportunity to argue the rights and wrong of either on the covid thread BTW, this is just to gauge the opinions of NSC'ers on this one question.

No there won't be a christmas lockdown. It just won't happen. If there were it would not be the same as previous lockdowns. The sensible approach is limiting your circle. Meet with a few important people rather than a large group of strangers (or people you don't really 'need' be to be with - such as the office christmas party). Take a day or two between those groups you meet. Spread out the socialising over the whole week so that if you do catch it at one event, there's a chance you realise before passing it on.
Take LFTs regularly and certainly after you have done anything risky.

This. We and our family ( and a couple of friends ) broke previous lockdowns. I'm glad we did because otherwise my parents wouldn't have got to see their children or grandchildren before they died ( not of Covid ).

To be frank once you think of Cummings, Hancock and all these parties you think "Why bother ?". Fvck em.

I’ve worked 14 hour night shifts, often as many as 12 shifts on the bounce, average 8 in a row, looking after others. Time for me to have my fun. Sorry!

Besides which, all my elder relatives are long dead and I’m only going to be around young, vaccinated people.

Any further lockdown is unnecessary and declared solely to increase the elite’s coffers. They can shit the **** off.

Maybe a flush of anger got the better of me there. I apologise.

I know they didn’t invent Covid. But I’m always suspicious when the people that make the rules stand to make millions depending on what rules they choose to impose.

I will however be continuing my life in as normal a fashion as possible. If places are open, I’ll be going out. Whatever happens, I’ll be enjoying my Christmas plans whatever rules are suggested.

I doubt there will be a Christmas lockdown anyway. They’ll cobble something together in the NY, I’m certain.
