This, for me, is where football stats become absolutely meaningless. They are, after all, simply the combined output of somebody making a subjective judgment call on in-game incidents or events. They aren't in anyway scientific and can only ever be part of the picture.

For example: according to the above quote - either someone somewhere, has decided that in the third minute of the cup game vs Wolves, Steele, (whilst under no pressure whatsoever) completely misjudging the flight of a routine high ball into the box and palming it into the 6 yard box wasn't an error that led to a goal? Or if the stats being quoted exclude cup games then that makes them incomplete and equally meaningless.

FFS.
Yes, this is why I tend to use my eyes in general, I only look to statistics in case I fell asleep during a match or missed something while going for a mid match toilet break. I will be happy in who he plays, but I do prefer Jason sweeping up and feel we need it when we push so high at times.

Another clean sheet but I assume x2 games on the bench now headed his way.

I am glad the team got the clean sheet, but let's face it there was no real desire from Roma to create chances. Bart did drop an easy catch and got chipped from just a few yards out. This is why he may not be ready to be a full timer!

If Steele had made the same mistakes imagine the horror ?! Bart still needs a lot more games and experience before I’m convinced.

'Chipped'? Do you mean the disallowed goal? That was a pretty unexpected strike and most keepers wouldn't have stopped it. Or was it something else?

To be fair, he’d probably agree with you. And he’s not going to get that spending 50% of competitive fixtures on the bench. He’s found himself at the only top flight club that rotates the keeper every 2 games, so I suspect he won’t hang around for long anyway.

Which basically shows that neither is really that great, both conceding more than they should.

I think this is why there is rotation. If Bart was our full time goalie he would be getting pelters for some of his performances and there would be calls for him to be dropped. Only by playing Steele can we see that the alternative is even worse, and thus allow Bart to develop and improve without having the crowd on his back.

Smart move perhaps.......

Well, yes. To be honest, as you say, neither are particularly exceptional at the actual ‘goal keeping’ bit of being a goal keeper, in comparison to their PL peers.

I’m not a massive fan of basketball football and really appreciate a disciplined 0-0 or hard-fought 1 or 2 nil, but appreciate that I’m in a minority on that. That Bournemouth-Luton game last night would have frustrated the hell out me, even as a neutral.

So in the meantime, I’m not going to bother about it anymore and just accept it for what it is.

I’m just back and admit I haven’t seen any replays but what mistakes? The only replay I have seen is the disallowed goal and no keeper is saving that.

If this is the attitude towards our keepers then we might as well quit. I don’t even remember that. He’s 21 and currently the Dutch no 1. He should be our no 1.
We’ve got youngsters with massive potential all over the pitch, they make mistakes, no difference in goal. He is the future, I’d rather stick with him and he makes the odd mistake than rotate with a 33 year old who also makes the same number of mistakes, if not more. Different if our 33 yo is ‘safe hands’ but he’s not. So I say give Bart the gloves for the next 10 games and see where we end up.

Hey I’m not complaining - but he has never looked that comfortable on corners and the 1 half decent one he had to deal with he came out , flapped missed so that’s what is probably being referred to. Also a weakness of Sanchez

So if Steele makes a mistake we can moan but if Bart does the same we can’t moan cos he’s younger ? Got it 👍🏻

I think Rotation is partly to blame!
