The prospect of Redknapp taking the job, unlikely as it initially seemed, is full of comedy potential.
Will having to manage a club whose expectations are slightly above minimal be too much for him? Pompey fans are so grateful for his efforts in lifting them above the Championship relegation zone, they'd forgive anything. When they win, he grabs the credit with both hands, when they don't, there's always someone or something else he can shift the blame on to (haven't you noticed recently he's started telling us what a "miracle" it would be if they finished in the top half, despite earlier aiming for Europe?).
I don't see Newcastle fans being quite so forgiving of mid table obscurity, nor the prospect of a swathe of average players shipped in under mysterious circumstances from Africa and the former Yugoslavia.
How would he cope with having proper money to spend, and the fact he no longer has the decrepit surrounds of Fratton Park to put potential signings off, he'd actually be judged on his ability for once, and not his self-created chirpy cockney geezer image that has the media in his pocket.
But by far the best thing about him taking the Newcastle job would be that Tony Adams might take over from him at Pompey
Please God, make it happen
