Apart from the constant digs at us as fans when he was our manager, then leaving for the first big club that batted their eyelashes at him and took the entire coaching staff with him, leaving us completely in the lurch mid-season, then continuing to make comments negatively about us after he left? That’s before we even get to the indifferent performances on the pitch during his tenure.

You might be prepared to overlook all of that. Many of us aren’t.
1. He didnt make constant digs, literally one or two in three years that were in heat of post match.
2. Paul Barber has been clear multiple clubs approached us about Potter and Chelsea was first time he had even talked to them.
3. He didn’t make negative comments after he left and took the time to explain his rationale, something not many would have done
4. He took the staff he brought mainly and Bruno who is the real snake. Bruno who knew he was the contingency if Potter left but left anyway.

So basically you are talking nonsense.

Looking at it this way, yes, he made a few digs and defending himself which Roberto did with his digs at Tony after the January transfer window!

Not true.
He also took Ben Roberts, & Winstanley (who stabbed him in the back, in the most epic piece of Karma to have ever been meted out in Premier league history)

If we look at the others..

Sanchez, White, Lamptey, Mac Allister and Veltman made their first full seasons as PL players. They did fine, but they were certainly unpolished (Veltman aside).

Tariq Lamptey broke down a month into the season and came back a few times before he had to sit the season out. 11 games in total. Solly March tore his ACL halfway into the season. Neither Lallana or Welbeck could start more than half of the games.

Trossard still drifted in and out of games.

The only real stability we could rely on was Dunk, Webster, Veltman, Burn (imo), Bissouma and Gross. And thats certainly a good core, but thin and (as we saw) not bound to score a lot of goals.

A lot of that was solved when Trossard and Alexis eventually grew into reliable key players, which slowly improved our attacking capacity. When Caicedo had learnt a thing or two in the rough Belgian reality, his left foot (we didn't have one bar Burn/March) and defensive capacity allowed Alexis to dictate play. Thats how it clicked.

The next manager will hopefully be one who can calmly and confidently oversee the organic growth we're supposed to be doing next season.
Like in the good old Potter days.
But your post really is no different, and arguably significantly less than the season just gone.

Lamptey, literally was on fire (unless that was the season before), White was a £50m defender, MacAllister was becoming an established international. Bissouma was playing like two players he was so good….

You can spin things any way you want….

I didn’t and don’t rate Burn, particularly at LB but that’s just opinion. CB he’s okay, but not great.

We were still organically growing with De Zerbi even in the second season. To finish within a point of top 10, with all the context (injuries, fixture congestion, fatigue from Europe) which you seem to be conviniently omitting here, was still a very good achievement. Theres no doubt even without his exact backing that he wanted, he would have achieved as much as potter ever did had he have stayed. Let’s not act like we’ve regressed from the system we had before. The good old potter days were enjoyable sometimes, by my god the good old De Zerbi days were Euphoric, something that I could never say was during a Potter day.
100% this.

Edit - fair point from @Hugo Rune re Utd…. My memory is crap
When he left it felt like Potter had found a good balance, but it also shouldn’t be forgotten that the recruitment team effectively put the players in his and RdZ’s lap.

Surprise surprise they want the yes man back in to bore us silly for the foreseeable.

Back to crappy cup runs and not beating Palace.
Mitoma it was great while it lasted one of the worlds best wingers will not want to play wing back.
March back to the bench and two goals a season.

Pass me the Prozac.
We don't know that.

The only thing we know is that the club doesn't want a no man in charge.

"Can you do a decent job without us signing world class replacements for March, Caicedo, Alexis and Mitoma?" - no

"Can you go an entire press conference without saying 'were a small club'?" - no

"Can you adapt to ever changing circumstances and football development?" - no

"Could you avoid our most expensive squad ever being in relegation form for 7 months? - no

"Will you be a man and take responsibility and not blame injuries or refs, and not throw young players under the bus?" - no

Thats the guy we don't want and we can indeed assume the club wants something closer to the opposite.

I’m not disagreeing that we’d draw or lose to Palace consistently under GP mk2 but it’s annoying and ironic that the handful of success he had at Chelea included a double over our arch rivals.

Just me or are the constant references to ‘we’ or ‘our’ in these posts doing their head in?
When potter is not reappointed you’ll disappear as quick as you arrived

The Albion is a different club to the one GPott left and Chelsea plundered. The Italian blew away the inferiority complex. We WERE one of the four best teams in this country when all parts were functioning. It all got massively overheated because DeZerbi is a firework personality. We took off, soared and exploded.

Poyet/RDZ or Chris/Gpott/Sami?

Tariq Lampteys career "on fire" lasted between his debut against Leicester in June 2020 and the 3-0 victory against Newcastle in the second game of the 2020/21 season, where he was substituted for "safety reasons". He played another half-dozen games that autumn but problems were obvious and he soon needed to go under the knife. Since then he has never been the same. It was just a ten-game run of top quality (at a pace proving to be unsustainable to the human body).

Alexis was not a starter for us, very far from "becoming an established international" and by his own accounts not physically ready for PL.

Indeed, you can spin things...

No arguments about Bissouma though, he was the best player that season by a massive margin.

For a man as I recall spent months telling us press conference were irrelevant and that some of us needed to get over ourselves for mocking GPotters use of the learn and take the positives line after every defeat, it is quite amusing how he manages to find some issue with RDZ using press conferences to remind the media he was dealing with an injury crisis on top of selling our two best midfielders.

Then again this is the same person who has watched us under RDZ have to put out countless formations and selections due to the injury crisis that is accused of only having one way of playing. Even after having watched us get through our Europa group with more pragmatic performances at home to Marseille and away in Athens.

The lack of balance in absolutely anything is absolutely infuriating.

One day, the bloke will invest some time in a trip over here to try and get to know the culture of being a Brighton supporter and watching them live, rather than obsessing over a decent but also limited manager from a computer hundreds of miles away. And then he might just understand the different sides of this debate.

Nailed it again!

Maccer was terrible for over a year. I still don't think he's top 4 material either. Vastly over hyped thanks to Messi. Liverpool will be nowhere near the title next season.

This is all getting quite comical with people getting more and more entrenched in their support/objection to Potter.

I'd prefer Potter not to come back but it would seem some of our other choices have gone elsewhere or signed new contracts so he might be what the club consider to be the best of the rest. 50 years of watching the Albion and I'm not going to stop now if Potter comes back but lets put some perspective to his record.

He took over a team that had two relegation battles and were playing a dire brand of football. He changed that. Yes, we had a run of 7 losses. However, Potter's last 14 games saw us win 9 (including away at Arsenal and Spurs and of course home to Utd), losing just twice in that run, scoring 27 goals in the process. We were 4th when Chelsea came calling. What we will never know is where we might have finished had he stayed. RDZ turned up and seemingly added some spice to the system and we had a great 20 months before he threw it all away (by that, he knew the model when he accepted the job and presumably was aware of our unique history and therefore TB was not going to put that at risk).

The Chelsea home game was fantastic but it was pantomime. The fans used the situation to really get behind the team and it worked.

Michael Carrick’s odds have fallen quickly to 10/1.
I know it’s a small market but..
I said it yesterday but I think he’s gone well under the radar and would be a very “us” appointment

Press conferences ARE irrelevant as long as you don't use them to actively cause harm to the team and club, like in the case with Roberto.

And yeah I've seen injury crisises under Potter and De Zerbi and us playing multiple formations under both managers.

The only "balance" De Zerbi cultists accept is the one interpretation of reality where we had a world class manager who got f***ed over by Brighton & Hove Albion. And I'm not buying it.
