Myself and a few others host a weekly quiz at our friendly local and one of the customary rounds is the Music Round.

The usual fare offered up is song covers - name the original artist and song title - played through my little blue tooth speaker and the wonder of Spotify - but we have had other themes involving:

Love Songs
TV Themes
Music from the Movies
Songs with the Title not in the Lyrics
Songs with the Title in the last line only.
Guitar Intros
Piano Intros
Samples

With the raft of music aficionados and learned intellectuals that frequent this site, are there any other themes we could use and examples to work off please??

You could play a "What's the connection?" round, e.g. A George Harrison song, then an Eric Clapton one (the link being he nicked his wife), etc.

Yardbirds then Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page played guitar for both)

Could easily play about 5 songs that Nile Rodgers cowrote/performed on (Madonna, Bowie, Chic etc).

Songs with fruit in the title
Name that instrumental (eg Hocus Pocus by Focus, Song for Guy - Elton John, Hot Butter - Popcorn, Chariots of Fire - Vangelis, Frankenstein - Edgar Winter Group, etc)
Keeping it historical - play songs about a historical figure, or mentioning one in their title, and ask people to name the artist (eg King - UB40, Rasputin - Bony M, Free Nelson Mandela etc)
Place name songs (name the artist): too many to list

Hope these help :)

Songs with the same title that are not the same song. Play one, and ask for a different song with the same title that charted. e.g. The Power Of Love - Frankie + Jenny Rush or Huey Lewis. Sure there are lots of others.

On the Border
Name the next album track, when you play a track from an album
How long on the album charts - Play say 5 album tracks and then ask to put the albums from which the tracks come from in order of time spent on album charts
Guest vocalist - Play album tracks are ask for the guest vocalist - obvious one Have a Cigar by Pink Floyd (which is Roy Harper)
Release date order - Play say 5 singles by the same artist and put in order of release (plus name the singles)
Songs with parenthesis
The remix - play 12" versions that have been remixed and ask for the remix name eg. Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax has the Chicane Full Mix, LMC Remix, Spencer and Hill Remix and loads more
