Not being able to make it to Leeds on saturday (bad fan etc I know) I took the short trip to Longmead Stadium, home of Tonbridge Angels to watch them take on top of the table Chelmsford City.

I had two hours to kill as the other half was meeting friends for lunch and to my surprise I saw on the team sheet that Minton was playing for Chelmsford.

They are top of the league and I think they got promotion on Saturday with an 89th minute winner to take the game 1-0.

Anyway Minton was an absolute class above and it was great to see him play.

Spoke to him afterwards in the bar and he is still in touch with a couple of the old boys - Paul McCarthy (who was at midnight mass in Crowborough at Christmas) and Peter Smith.

Said he had a wonderful time but also said he wished he could have played at a happier time for the club.

Nice guy, happy memories of the Albion and a couple of great stories.

Also liked to watch him as he was a rarity at that time - someone who could play the game.

Macca was a Crowborough Athletic on Saturday - look out for him running out on the Wembley turf with Ebbsfleet in the FA Trophy final on 10 May.

Peter Smith catches the train from Tunbridge Wells to London most mornings...

That would probably be for rehearsals for the stage version of Popeye-he's hoping to be cast as Olive Oyl...

In a pile of football shirts
Just bought my ticket, McPhee should be playing as well.

Are you saying we have to BUY our own tickets? Surely as owners we should get comps and Club Lounge passes too :angry:

As is obligatory to point out in any thread about Minton, he was a little bit suspiciously injury-prone in his final months here. I remember going to Club Barcelona (now Creation) for a Junior Seagulls party and being informed by the (female) bouncer on the door that Jeffrey Yorke had a tiny penis.

Not sure how I'd feel about Peter Smith being my agent. I'll forever associate him with being gangly and awkward. I'd fear that carrying on in bargaining positions.

I remember being really disappointed when he left, but can't really remember if he left simply to move up a couple of divisions to join up with Brian Horton at Port Vale or because Micky Adams made it clear he didn't figure in his rebuilding plans.

£26 for a wemblry ticket is a bargain, not been to new Wembley so thought I'd pop up prior to Albions visit in May  Plus another chance to see Macca and McPhee
Have you been on the MyFootballClub forums as I'm sure you'd pick up a few shirts?
