I take it Albion fans want us (Boro) to beat Burnley on Tuesday?

I really don't care an iota what the Burnley v Middlesbrough score is. It will be what it will be, and I won't invest any of myself in hoping for a particular result.

Our shot at promotion is winning the next 4. Keep it simple. Let's do it.

I think a Middlesboro/Burnley draw is best.

It would mean only 2 points are coming out of that game instead of 3. And gives them both an opportunity to drop points in other games and be catchable.

If one team hads to win, Boro is clearly the better option.

I want Middlesbrough to have nothing riding on our game so with that in mind I need them to be promoted before we play them. As such I'm very much in Team Middlesbrough for the next three games. I also hope that they stuff Burnley like they did us, Grey gets a straight red and three match ban and Barton picks up a six week injury.

Boro to win please! Then Burnley to choke and lose in the big Lancashire derby at Preston. Big wins for us against QPR and Charlton to leave us 4 points clear of Burnley with 2 games to go setting up a massive last game of the season at the Amex in front of a capacity crowd v Derby which is won 1-0 in the 94th minute with a goal off Bruno's arse! That'll do nicely thanks and then the Boro game decides the title!

I am enjoying this thread.

It's giving me a reality check for our game v QPR.

Just when I start banking points, I read this and remember:-

'come on people - one game at a time'.

We all know that game means fook all if the Albion get turned over tomorrow, don't get sucked in.

Surely we want Burnley to loose vs. Boro as it's the only result that means we can guarantee promotion by beating Derby.
If Burnley get a point tomorrow but then loose to Preston, it means that even three straight wins for us vs.QPR, Charlton and Derby still wouldn't guarantee promotion. We would have to at least wait for the result of Burnley's game later in that day vs. QPR before we were definitely up.

I do think a Boro win would be the 'best' result for the Albion in this game. But really it is down to us. I'm not even going to look at the score in the Bro Burnley game until we have successfully overcome QPR in our game. it's a tough ask, but it's a simple equation, we win out, we do it. I hope we do not have to rely on other results.

Actually I'm wrong! Boro could loose their next three and we could get promoted by beating Derby!!! Let's jus focus on beating QPR!!

It'll be a draw on Tuesday. Both teams have just been doing enough to win lately, "finding a way", they can't both do that tomorrow.

If they do draw and we win, it keeps them both within our sights. Pressure like that does funny things to teams......we have to keep cranking it up and hope for cracks to appear.

Yes, indeed.

That is the most important point.

Burnley v Middlesbrough won't matter unless we beat QPR.

Win on Tuesday, and then we can look at the table and see the implications from Turf Moor. Fail to win, and there will be little point.

For the first three quarters of the season, that would have been the correct answer, but it's more complicated now.

Instead of just looking at 2 points or 3 points, you need do look at the most likely set of results over the last 4 games for the 3 of us. That 1 extra point you'd be giving Burnley would be big, and could well be enough to make us 3rd on GD. Giving 2 extra points to Middlesbrough (for a win rather than a draw) would not be as bad as that point to Burnley.

Actually it really REALLY would. If we fail to beat QPR and Burnley beat Middlsbrough, we would be 3 or 4 points adrift of 2nd place.

Every team that's ever won any league title in England has had to rely on other results. We probably won't even win our next 3, we might not even win tomorrow, so needing to win the next 4 (making it 9 out of the last 10) is a bit much to ask.

You were wrong anyway.
If Burnley lose to Boro, they can still pip us if we win our next three then also lose to Boro.

Don't care as long as we win.
Literally whatever result that game end up is decent for us as long as we win, which will be tough enough.

No, he was right - he wasn't saying Burnley couldn't go on to beat us (as they could get a result against Preston), he was saying that if Burnley lose vs 'brough and Preston, and we win our next 2, we can win promotion vs Derby, which wouldn't be possible if Burnley draw against 'brough.
