Albion goalscorer Jake Robinson has backed his close friend Dean Cox to follow his lead and learn from being axed.

Cox was left at home for disciplinary reasons as the Seagulls strolled to a 3-0 victory over Swindon at the County Ground on Saturday.

Robinson, dropped from the squad in similar circumstances at Swansea in September, said: "It's unfortunate for him. I am sure he was gutted sitting at home.

"I have become a better person and a better player for that incident and I am sure it will be the same with Dean and he will come back bigger and better than ever."....


I seem to remember that Wilkins was criticised for his treatment of 'Jakey' (Do we have to call him that?), yet his form has picked up since then and he has now stated, in the press, that he is a better person and player since the incident. Hopefully the same can be said for Cox and it will be another triumph for Wilkins.

Not me - my tale is first hand - I witnessed with my own eyes and ears as I waited for the Insider to rescue me from the winter chills and escort me to the luxury environs of one of the club 'lounges'.

didn't speak to him much when I joimed in training but will say this. Coxy is arrogant in a way a ood player can be and this gives him the confidence to be a pro footballer. having said this he is a decent bloke who is still learning and will make the odd mistake. WQilkins is a very good man manager imho as he knows when and how to dicipline anyone getting out of line while keepingplayer respect. Remembe, these guys are paid to do a job, If they step out of line they will be talked to but it's in house and sorted there

Cox is back in the fold

ALBION manager Dean Wilkins revealed today that Dean Cox's punishment is over and he will be considered for selection against Gillingham at Withdean on Friday night.

Cox was left at home for disciplinary reasons as the Seagulls won 3-0 at Swindon on Saturday.

Wilkins decided to crack down on the fiery little winger following incidents after the home defeat by Nottingham Forest 11 days ago and in training last week.

With emotions running high after the Forest setback, Cox became involved in a dressing room row.

The 20-year-old playmaker was then ordered in from a training session at Albion's Falmer headquarters in the build-up to the Swindon game.

Cox is in the squad for today's (Tues) reserve fixture against Charlton at Worthing (2pm) as preparations began for Gillingham's visit and Wilkins said: "It has been dealt with."

Asked if Cox would be available to face the Gills, Wilkins added: "I would say yes.

"As far as I am concerned I am not somebody that holds a grudge or anything like that.

"As long as we all know where we are coming from and where I am coming from, then there is not a problem."

Joe Gatting, back from a loan spell at Woking, also features in the reserve squad.

Looks like the team has a busy day today then! 2pm match then up to the childrens hospital to see the little chavlings (as a mum who's son was in hospital over xmas three years ago, this visit by the players is priceless, even to the children who aren't quite sure who they are - they still know a local celeb has come to see them, and the players are always so friendly to the kids) then onto the junior seagulls christmas party! What right does the manager have to do that?

No.

And like I said, I understand the need for disipline, but to drop a key player from a game is potentially depriving us, the customers, of what we are paying for. Wilkins won't tell us about the nature of the incident, not totally, so I say don't tell us anything at all, just fine him, whatever, but don't put the success of the club in jepordy over an off the pitch incident.
