I'd wager, given the form of the 2 teams and the arrogance being spouted on here before the games, that deep-down you are 10 times more fearful of losing than us...

Nope, I don't think so. We're not trying to hide behind illogical excuses like 'we love being massive underdogs'. That's a classic way of minimising the effect of defeat whilst maximising the effect of winning. It's what kids and people who can't cope with defeat do.

No-one wants to lose to you. The thought of it is horrific, that's a given but we're not the ones already making excuses. That's you.

It seems to me after a season of bragging about having the best XI in the championship, having the leagues top scorer, the world's third best player, how you should finish in the top two and how we'd do well to sneak into the play offs, you're now hastily covering your tracks by claiming there's no pressure on you and how you love being a plucky underdog.
Exactly, it's embarrassing.

The only arrogance on here was comments like:
"Wait and see little man. If you finish within 15 points of us I'll be surprised. You're a top 10 side at best, we're playoffs at worst."
"We've got the best starting 11 in the championship"
"Only one of your players would get in our side"

Naturally when we overhauled the gap and finished above you we had a good laugh.

As for this last week, we're all nervous of losing, some of us think we're good enough to win, but no one is seriously being arrogant about our chances (comments like "we're going to thrash them" etc have generally been made in jest).

And I bet you've trawled every post in every thread ON YOUR RIVALS' FORUM to back this up?

Facts are that IF we win the tie you and your lot won't be on here for weeks, just how it has been since 17/3.

Mind the gap

I see in some of your recent posts you have used words like "terrified of losing", "can't cope with defeat" and "horrific" It's a game of football at the end of the day mate, not a matter of life or death as it sounds like you see it ???

The point I'm trying to make is simply this: we are going along to these 2 games in hope more then expectation, for your fans it is vice-versa. Your players and fans will know that most people expect Albion to triumph given teams completely contrasting form and that you have home advantage in the 2nd leg. But that brings it's own kind of pressure. (Don't bottle it, Palace going through on your own patch, etc) So of course it will hurt you more if you were to lose. That is why the Mcshane winner at Selhurst is one of your most famous wins and one of our most painful defeats; it was a result that turned the formbook on it's head. If we do progress to Wembley, the shock of it, the denial, the anger of it, the karma after giving it the big-un pre-match, would hit you all at once at the final whistle. *Where as most of our fans are at the stage where we have already accepted that defeat is very likely and thus we are already prepared for it if it happens.

If we should lose we will still be looking forward to a great season next year in The Championship as we are on the up.

Not sure you will be doing the same thing.

Sorry but are you a JCL by any chance? You really sound like someone that thinks just because you have a nice stadium and a large fanbase for this division that you have a divine right to be at the top every year. Football doesn't work like that at all. Look at what happened up at Wolves this year. I doubt they expected that in August. You could easily be up there again but you could also lose Gus to a Prem or La Liga team, likewise a few players like Bridcutt, Ulloa, Lopez to Prem teams and some of your loans might not resign with you. Naive to assume success is guaranteed IMO.

You argue that we are out and out favourites and you prefer the underdog label then you criticise us for bigging up our own team on our own forum, have you been on your forums, there as many deluded palace fans on there thinking you are going to smash us.

It nothing new fans blind loyalty to their own club, if you are offended by our confidence then don't bother come here.

Oh dear. Palace trying to censor what we write and talk about on our own BRIGHTON board.

It's simple, really. If they don't like what they read, they can just leave.

You understand context?

My original point was that you don't really 'love' being 'massive underdogs' going into two very big games against your rivals.

I'm saying that you, like many palace, are changing the rules/moving the goalposts. You(a generic palace you, not just you personally) have spent the majority of this season swarming over this board banging on about how great you were and how you were heading for automatic promotion. You took every opportunity to let us know. After spending the year assuming you were going up in the top two and thinking we wouldn't make the play offs now that you've lost form, ballsed up your top two push and only just limped over the line into the play offs, while we have got our act together and are looking good, suddenly you lot are down playing your team and chances. My point here is that you're doing this because after bigging it up all season you can't cope with the massive egg on your face if you get knocked out by your rivals. I'm also very confident that if you do beat us you will all be swarming over this website with your pre-paddy day bravura and arrogance.

None of us want to lose or be the underdogs, but we are resigned to the fact that we are shite at the moment. I am actually calm about the whole thing, a sort of resignation that we have forgotten how to play.

Then again Leicester were lucky to scrape into the play offs and they are currently up against the Italian team

Leicester are winning too! Indecently, they've been the best team to visit the Amex this year and I have them as favourites for the final. Which ever one of us gets through has a massive challenge at Wembley. If we don't concede a penalty in both ties, we've got a fantastic chance but I think you'll really up your game tonight and things will be very close.
