I've just spent ten minutes trying to think of something that made it all worth while.

I drove 240 and cycled 27. It was worth it
(a) to see Tom Finney
(b) to visit the National football Museum.

Was there a match as well ?

Not quite so bad for me, 220 miles. I thought the museum was a bit lightweight and the tanoy way too loud. Also bought a pie from a local chippie and I've been on and off the bog most of today - trots .....

On the subject of long drives.

I drove my family to Ramsgate once. Caught the midnight Ferry to Dunkirk then drove 700 miles (with minor breaks) to Valras Plage (near Sete) in the South of France, arriving mid afternoon.

Then drove back a fortnight later,. Didn't do THAT length of journey again without an overnight stop!!!

It was worse than Jet lag!

On the subject of long drives.

Ten years ago me and a friend drove a transit van to Berlin, via Ramsgate ferry, without any breaks.

About a hour after arriving we were whisked off to see Apollo 13 at the cinema; dubbed into German with English subtitles.

Needless to say I still don't know whether the crew returned safely to Earth.
