I don’t think you can say he was irrelevant. We can argue the toss about the Pistols, Lydon and McClaren but we can’t escape the fact he played a huge part in that band and punk itself . And Public Image Ltd were a very important and influential band as well. To play such a major part in two music genres isn’t irrelevant. I still listen to PiL from time to time. Metal Box is a stunning album.

Huge legacy but these days he’s an elderly gobshite.

IMO people don't vote for Trump because he isn't a politician (he is now), knows about and understands the working class lolol or is not the establishment (he always has been).

IMO they vote for him because he represents the opposite of the socially liberal 'woke' section of society and actively winds this side up. They more he winds up this section the more his base love him.

When Trump is gone Trumpism will stay because the socially conservative section of society, unhappy with the rate of social change, hasn't gone anywhere.

Cant forget that Trump was in the top 3 "Gallup Most Admired Men in America" poll (think it is mentioned in the Letterman interview below but could also be some other old talk show) for many years in the 1980s. I think a lot of oldies etc. who decided to stay in the 80s but dont really give a shit about politics voted for him just because they remember him being seen as some good, honest sensible decent bloke back in the days. Stuff like that lingers in the back of peoples minds for a long time.

A little known connection between the Pistols and Burgess Hill is that, back in 2002, they were rehearsing somewhere nearby for their Pistols At The Palace gig. John required emergency dental treatment which he obtained at a BH dental practice. Whilst he was in there, the rest of the band and crew piled into The Kings Head on the London Road for a few drinks to pass the time. Sadly, the pub closed 10 years later so never had the chance to get an English Heritage blue plaque put up to mark the occasion

I remember them opening the gig with a blinding version of Hawkwind's Silver Machine which, at the time, I thought was a bit random but then subsequently read that he was a big Hawkwind fan.
