I am sorry but is no one else a little worried that ONE person now owns over 75% ..

.of The Albion.

It also appears that this one obviously Albion mad and generous person is almost entirely responsible for funding one of the most expensive stadiums ever to be built in England.Perhaps he should be wrapped in cotton wool!

Southampton ??!!

Of course if we all lived in a more tolerant and less snobbish local society all this could have been sorted out in a boom era paid for and paid off.

I hope this thread isn't bounced in a few years for all the wrong reasons and although as a life long Albion fan I am delighted to have a stadium to take my kids to watch the Albion play in , I have some real reservations about the news finally released this evening, but initially welcome the news that the immediate future of the club appears to be secured.

Not worried because of who it is. If it was some self-made Northern, DIY-magnate, looking for a fast buck, I'd be shitting myself. But Tony Bloom, the 3rd generation of Bloom shareholders? Nah, not worried in the slightest.

we should be worried

....but in the circumstances this has an inevitability and the longevity of the family's ties to the club do at least give me some small reassurance that all will be well as long as the Blooms don't overreach themselves and do remain solvent

To worry is to effectively rule out any possibility of the Albion reaching the Premiership. We need this kind of investment, and no one will give it as a minority shareholder. That would never happen.

Does anyone really believe that a person, pledging possibly a sum in the region of +£40 million WOULDN'T want control of the club...??

Prior to the credit crunch, only a mad bank would have lent the money.............and we all know how helpful they would be in difficult times.

Was it not Barclays who in demanding their money back, led to the Goldstone being sold (via Archers massive £56.25 investment)...

Does anyone seriously believe Bloom wasn't chairman in all but name bearing in mind he has been bankrolling the club, apparently almost single handedly.

How many Prem clubs are not in the control of one man (or family). Personally, I don't want to see us as a small time community club in the lower reaches of the league pyramid.

Well I've slated Uncle Dick over the past few months, but am totally comfortable with what has happened tonight.

After all he went though, Dick Knight would never have left the club in the wrong hands.

Bloom can have 100% of it for all I care, because whilst I believed Dick lost the plot on the playing side last season (I was one of the few who absolutely slated him when he sacked Dean Wilkins and brought back Micky Adams) I wholeheartly trust him on off the field issues, and if he says Tony Bloom is the man to take the club forward, then Tony Bloom it is!!

My prediction is Russell Slade will take us to the Championship next season, he'll struggle the following year to fulfil the potential of the squad he'll have, his contract won't be renewed, and step forward a certain Mr Coppell to take us to the holy land.

........ and remember where you heard that first

Just heard this news now.

Have been concerned about the rumours going on beforehand as I am a "better the devil you know than the one you dont" type. Cautiously optimistic is how I feel at the moment. There have been lots of clubs in this situation and some are now in deep, deep, poo. So lets keep our finger's crossed and hope that this does not happen (again) to the Albion.

I`m not worried, Im excited!!! The one thing we needed was a sugar daddy, all clubs do to one extent or another, better for it to be an existing director with previous family history steeped in the club, than some faceless glory hunter who just happened to be rich. Sad that Dick`s no longer Chairman but lets face it its a bloody stressful job and for age/health reasons alone I didnt expect him to do it much longer, he`s handed the baton to an intelligent bloke by all accounts.

My one big worry all these years was how the hell were we gonna pay for the stadium and that was before the credit crunch! This has now been removed, its a day to rejoice, christ it could so easily have been stadium project stopped, club announces administration! I know which news I`d rather have.

At least Bloom's come up with some proper money. A few years back there was a guy called Steven Pardew sniffing around (using Steve Foster as a kind of frontman). There was talk that he wanted to put in as much as five million into the club, maybe even eight! In return he wanted control. Quite rightly those paltry sums didn't even get him through the front door,
