Like an alcholic, you will always be a smoker. Sooner you realise that, the sooner you will get off the fags for good.

1 year 2 months gone for me.

Good luck and just keep going. Before you know it a week would have gone, then a month, then a year.

You don't need luck Gareth. Stick with it and think how much easier the marathon training will get when you can breathe that much easier!!!

I'm not sure telling someone who has stopped smoking that "you will always be a smoker" is a great statement!!

The kicking of the fags is the first objective as the serious training cannot start without this. I intend to start the running on 1/10 and beef up the walking before then.

Stick a fiver each day on your bedside table, and at the end of the first week/month/ quarter just look at how much money you have saved. You KNOW it makes sense GG, keep it up.

I ment it in a positive light.

Know your demon so you can fight it. If US thinks because he has not smoked for two days he is no longer a smoker, then he is deluding himself.

Like I said though US - really very good luck to you and there is plenty of help out there if you need it.

Like someone else said, you'll always be a smoker, just recognise that bad that it does to you- always tempted by cigarettes on a night out but then I think how I'll feel the next morning but mentally and physically.

Are you going cold turky or patches?

Bloody absurd thing to do Uncle if you ask me, it was good enough for James Dean, is still good enough for Joanna Lumley, Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and yet a lightweight like you frickin' gives it up!

The only solace I can take from this absurd situation is that you will either fail in your quest to give up, or wake up, smell the coffee and see the error of your decision, how empty your life is without the occasional oily rag, that wonderful white smoke flooding your lungs and relieving all the stresses and strains.

Keep us posted
