Seeing the EV thread prompted this. I like the concept of a pure hybrid, but curious to know what owners, users and motor buffs think. I like the look of the MG3 hybrid, but wonder about the advantages and disadvantages of what some reviews suggest is a good, fun car.

We got a Toyota Yaris in the Spring this year and have been very happy with it. Does 70-75mpg. Handles fine.
We don't do a lot of miles - probably 5-6000 a year. Two or three trips a year of 100-400 miles, otherwise short local trips.

I have a Hyundai Tucson Plug In Hybrid, probably the best car I’ve ever had. It means my commute to work is done pretty much 100% on electricity and on longer runs I can average 50+ MPG. Combined MPG is around 85. As a company car the BIK rate is a third of what it would be if it wasn’t Plug-In.

My dad had a couple of hybrid Lexus he was very happy with, but I think it depends on brand reliability - as theoretically it’s ’another thing’ to go wrong and can be costly to fix. Looking at Jaguar Land Rover specifically !

Also note if the battery is flat then you typically can’t jump them meaning it’s a recovery job, my neighbour found out the hard way when he didn’t have ‘driveway cover’ with the AA and needed to get it back to a garage to look at a problem

I've had a Seat Leon Plug-In Hybrid for the past 3 years and I'm really happy with it. It helps that I can plug it in at home. I do 90% of my driving, mostly local, on electric.

Just bought a Honda hybrid (HRV).
It self-charges, and @BrightonCottager definitely ULEZ compliant.

Really enjoying it, so far seems very economical averaging 55-60mpg.

I bought a Honda Jazz hybrid, way back in 2011. I remember being quite evangelical at the time, telling everybody that it was the first step to the future of fully electric cars! Loved driving it, but it had one annoying flaw - the small battery battery recycled itself every so often, and on my 8 mile commute every day, it would always start charging from the engine exactly when I reached my final, steep uphill stretch! So, no electric boost, and an underpowered ICE engine. Otherwise a great car. We got about 60mpg.

When the battery warranty expired five years later, I traded it for a standard ICE Jazz, as I was worried about potential expensive repairs. I do still see it out and about though, nearly 14 years later, so it's a survivor.

I really wish that Honda would produce a fully electric version, but now they just do a car that's too small and a car that's too big for us.
