I'm not sure anyone has suggested his current state of mind hasn't been triggered by these events however you are aware he has had depressive episodes previously.
Yep, very aware of his depressive episodes going back 20 years . I have no doubt he is in a terrible place atm. He is ‘fortunate ‘ in that he is rich enough to afford the best care. Unfortunately that’s not the case with the other 99% (different story ). I hope he gets well asap.

None of that means what he has allegedly done is ok though. To what extent is his breakdown self inflicted due to getting caught ? It’s unclear at the mo.

Not saying it’s happening here ,but I do think there is a danger of rich fake people using mental health as a way to get out of jail free when they’re caught . Society would be naive to think otherwise.

When it comes to mental health my primary sympathies are with those who suffer calamities in their life out of their control . And then can’t get the care they need . You won’t read about them in the papers though.

If you were a very rich person in the public eye and someone accused you of essentially being a fraud by portraying yourself as upstanding person but actually being other than that, what course of action would you take, right from the off ?
History says well resourced stars tend to annihilate accusers when this happens through their lawyers.
It’s not wild to assume there may be more to the allegations than horseshit.
It’s not horseshit to wonder if huw’s breakdown is largely due to him getting caught.

Who do you reckon funded the young person’s legal team btw? Can’t have been cheap. Let’s not
make assumptions though.

The problem here is people are struggling to separate their views on mental health, their views on having integrity and their hatred of the tabloids.
Since no crime has taken place the only reason the young person concerned needs a legal team is to protect themselves from The Sun.

As for Huw, all he’s done is have a private and expensive OnlyFans. Do you have any idea how many people watch porn, or the age of some of those involved?

What CF has posted seems to equate Huw Edwards to a nonce just because of where he works. It’s borderline libel. Don’t be surprised if the thread disappears

Lot of insinuation in your post. As you point out, 'what he has allegedly done'. The Police say no crime has been committed, there has been no evidence that the Sun have seen the photos that were supposedly sent nor produce any evidence of any payments having been made. In fact, the so called victim has declared that the story is false. The fact the Sun are backtracking suggests they may have doubts.

As for your last paragraph, wholeheartedly agree however would add the point that their suffering isn't done in the full glare of the public.

I’m not defending cf. i agree he or she does speak a lot of nonsense. I just think some of cfs points here were in the 2% not horseshit.
On a general level , on twitter last week huw was compared to saville . That was disgraceful.

Re Huw’s alleged behaviour. he’s traded off his wholesome image so imo It’s not the same as the fella down the road looking at porn or having an affair .

The sun have backtracked on whether illegality has taken place . They haven’t said the whole thing is cock and bull .
illegality is one thing, integrity is another .

Your last point - yes , fair point

Once again, can I just check that we don't know what has *actually* happened in this situation?

This is quite interesting as it’s getting to the heart of why some people are upset.

Let’s assume Huw Edwards has had a direct debit set-up with an OnlyFans content provider for £1,000 for 3 year or so, puts kisses and heart emojis on some of his messages to work colleagues and is not immune to sending sweary and aggressive messages to other OnlyFans content providers who have potentially tried to blackmail him by threatening to reveal his name to the media. There is not the evidence for much else by the way.

These less than wholesome actions are clearly not commendable but on your logic, does this mean he is not fit to work as a news broadcaster anywhere, or just on the BBC? Would you be happy for him to be your GP or MP? Would it be ok for him to be a headteacher at a primary school? Would you be offended if he edited the Sun newspaper? Where do you draw the line with someone who has paid for pornography?

A silly old 61 year old fart earning circa 500k of taxpayers money sending 35k to a 17/18 year old who’s parents had complained about his conduct, along by all accounts other young parole he worked with?

Maybe if he worked for an institution that didn’t have a track record of employing nonces, we could all go prrrrft.
compared to what the Sunaks and politicians in general are up to mate it's of little or no consequence to the overall state of the country.

When has that ever been a reason not to have a binfest on here???

The thick, the aggressive, the wind up merchants, the in the knowers, the holier than thou, the frustrated and knowledgeable, the knee jerkers, and others, they all wade in.

Putting to one side the Huw Edwards story which is impossible to pick the bones out of .

On a general level …

Looking at porn ? Pretty much normalised . Not recommended for vicars though

Only fans ? I don’t have an account . But doesn’t it blur the boundaries between looking at pictures and having some kind of a relationship ? That could be troublesome

Is legality the benchmark of whether an action is unacceptable ? No

Am I offended by this kind of thing ? No

Do I have a dislike for disingenuous behaviour ? Yes

Do I think I am perfect on this score ? No

I think that seems lost on everyone. I don't see how people can defend or chastise him when we don't know what happened.

You raise an interesting point and I have to say it’s one which has crossed my mind a few times but not in this case. For example there was a Love Island guy who got snapped snorting coke a few days ago in Ibiza. Like all the other celebs who get caught he was also in a “bad/vulnerable place” and “made an error of judgement.” etc etc. I’m willing to bet that most of these celebs simply enjoy a few cheeky lines just like millions of others do each weekend. It takes advantage of those who have genuine issues.

I am not 100% sure of my logic/argument here but given your premise above, Huw Edwards is a very prominent broadcaster working for a public broadcaster that is largely funded by public money. So in my view (others will have a different view) he should be held to higher standards of behavior particularly when there is a significant risk that any 'questionable' behavior could come into the public domain regardless of where it is legal or not.

In a sort of similar way, I didn't think it was ideal that when Kay Burley was suspended for 6 months from Sky News for breaking lock-down rules, as soon as she was back she was hounding politicians for breaking lock-down rules.

Talking generally and not about Huw. This is happening more and more …

You’re in the public eye , you make bad choices that fly in the face of your public image, the media catch you , the story gets played out in public , that affects your mental health.

The questions are should the bad thing that was exposed be forgotten ? To what extent is the mental crisis self inflicted ? To What extent does it warrant sympathy ? Is there any wrongdoing a mental health crisis doesn’t absolve ? Where’s the line ?

It’s an interesting one .

Can paying an OnlyFans content provider really be a bad thing in a ‘universal’ sense, i.e. ‘everyone thinks it’s bad’? If you do it, you have to weigh up the risks but it seems that the content provider has been very grateful about the business received.

At the same time, I admit the vast majority of people would view this ‘habit’ as bad and that it’s a very bad look for a BBC presenter. Personally, I just don’t care what he does in his private life as long as he is law abiding but plenty of people do and will be quick to judge him. The mental health trauma of having just thrown away such a successful career and reputation must be almost unbearable.

Surely it's possible to feel sorry for him about his mental health and think that what he has done is grubby and highly unfair on his wife and family? Holding these two positions as well as hating the Sun for its gutter press tendencies and feeling that all the judgemental curtain switchers are quite ridiculous. 4 positions that seem to be seen as mutually exclusive on this thread.

I am not sure there is a line, just a jumble of positions that can all be true.
