Except he didn’t, they were clear of the relgation zone when he was sacked.
With games against the top 4 remaining when he was sacked and we all know how Hughton sets up against the big teams.

Disappointed in your post Harry. We haven’t kept doing the same thing, we have changed to 4 -3 - 3 to suit the players we have bought.
The strikers not scoring can be blamed on the manager but is he really to blame?
We dropped from 13th to 14th today. Let’s be honest we are used to either being in a relegation struggle or a promotion struggle. We have our excitement back.
If we go down, who better to bring us back up than Chris, just like Dyche?
If we lost against all of our next three league fixtures against Leicester, Huddersfield and Palace than I would EXPECT him to get the sack.
Thankfully, that won't happen - surely?
Yes. I was emoting yesterday.
I can handle disappointment and struggle. I am dealing with someone at work who, in the last 3 years, has twice tried to change the behaviour of colleagues by explaining what she wants from them. However the outcome has twice been the same - no change. I had a meeting with her and explained that we needed to do something different. I outlined my plan (which involves having a few simple rules and someone checking that the right decisions are made). She doesn't like it because she wants our colleagues to 'see and understand' what needs to be done 'by themselves', and her plan is to explain to them again what she wants. She insists that 'things are improving' even though I have shown her the evidence that nothing has changed (classic delusional thinking - believing that the right changes are happening simply because she wants something to be the case - false pattern recognition, the sort of nonsense that makes people think they can beat the system in a casino). I am now in a situation where I either back her (and act as a 'consultant' for colleagues who are not sure what to do - exactly the same as my role has been in the past) or disengage. Mrs T thinks I am insane to have anything to do with this. She's probably right.
I feel just the same way about the Albion now. I sat back and watched the game yesterday knowing exactly what to expect. I was right. There was a chance we would get a result, but in the long term, week after week, the odds are will will lose more than we will win, and because everybody knows our game it will become easier for the others to beat us. The next game will be exactly the same. And the game after that. I am not happy saying this and I wish things were different. I am not going to start shouting 'hooten out' at games, or behave like an entitled tit, and relegation in itself, noble in the face of overwhelming odds, isn't the end of the world. Its the sense that the basic approach is set in stone, from recruitment and coaching to style of play. I'm finding this suddenly stifling - claustrophobic even. I want to feel a bit of hope. That surely means change.
Would you want CH sacked before the season ends?

What did your mate think of the game, is a he supporter or other?
As I've already mentioned, second half was quite enlightening, given that Mrs AR bollocked me for shouting out loud, probably due to the fact I was wearing headphones.
I looked over randomly at different post match interviews with CH last night, and the one last night you can see he was holding in some sort of anxt/anger, which he does need to show a lot more of IMO.
We play footy the CH way, which I agree is not always pretty to watch, but when we do win, it's all about the positives and all on NSC are happy again.
I'm positive we'll survive this year, but it'll be a fight.
Hughton is playing a system which suits the players at his disposal.
He is a pragmatist and very good at what he does.
He has recently switched to a new, system which allows us to be more attacking, but that loses the rigid defence which was so successful.
However he knows the team needs to evolve and is trying to make that happen.
This may be a bit too soon for the players we have, but it is essential that we do it.
In reality if we had put away a couple more chances over the past 3 games we would have 6 more points and this board would be full of what a great manager he is.
I'm worried that things won't improve.
But that worry is due to a bad set of results, which I don't believe are a fair reflection on our performances.

We may well survive this year, but only because there will be three teams 'shiter' than us.
However, do we want the same old, same old, again next season? Is this as good as it is going to get or will we win another away game in the Prem, ever?
Ultimately, it depends on what Tony Bloom finds acceptable, whatever us lot on NSC think.
Last year I thought we were in big trouble and we pulled wins against ManU and Arsenal out of the bag to save us.
Not sure we can rely on doing that again.
Bournemouth ( but they always get the luck v us ), Wolves and ( in reality ) Huddersfield also have nothing to play for.Leicester are pretty well the only mid table, nothing to play for team that we have left aren’t they? Relegation six pointers are much tougher as are matches against the top six going for Europe. Very tough run in whatever the optimists on here think
Jog-on tit-head, I go by the club motto 'Stand or Fall' and have done for 53 years. If you think we could find a better manager then I think you may need one of these https://www.doctify.co.uk/find/Psychology/Peckham
I think that pretty much sums it up.
I do think CH needs to allow some of his players to express themselves a bit more. Solly needs to know that he won't turn into a pumpkin if he leaves the wing and ventures inland a little.
Also, the club might just want to buy a player that can go straight into the first team. Just an idea.
Stephens has also got to take a few more risks with forward passes.
Yesterday was really poor at times, Burnely grabbed the game by the balls for a long spell.
That said it could have been different. For the last two league games we’ve come up against an on form keeper. Also we had a blatant penalty, 1-2 with 15-20 mins to play spins to 0-3 on diabolical refereeing. To use the old cliche it’s a game of thin margins.
We are clearly not playing well but I feel the switch to 4-3-3 when we had built great momentum earlier in the season, under pressure from many fans, has failed.
There are still 6 in the running for one place, or 7 from two depending no your view of Fulham. I expect Palace and Burnley to pull away so 1 out of 4. I would back Chris on this.
The goal is to stay in the EPL.
