I get where you're coming from, but speed of thought is often a more potent weapon than speed of foot. We labour for pace, yes, but coordination and wile should allow us to adventure more.
I think at the present time we might be a tad limited by being confined to formation that requires a number 10. March is not that, and that is fine, but with Gross out, and Davy, we shouldn't try to force-fit someone into his clever-thinking role. I'd rather we attempted to adapt to what we had available, with players of an understanding of their position.

We used to do this in the Championship didn't we when Baldock was out (which wasn't often...) we might go with Hemed and Murray in a 4-4-2. It never worked as well in my opinion, with the two strikers too similar. Hughton has persevered with Locadia, and I'm sure he'd be in instead of March if Hughton thought that would make us stronger, but it seems fairly clear Locadia / Murray together wasn't going to do that, and Bissouma has failed to lock down a start despite a great song . Perhaps Andone is now worth a try, but for those complaining about our form at present, we just don't have the options to make us better that we hoped we'd have when we made the summer signings. That may happen in weeks and months to come, but right now I think he is doing the best with what he has.

As a “Fan” I’m not always thrilled with our football . However, What Chris has managed with the superb support from Tony has been incredible for our club. Anyone who thinks that in reality, we could have achieved more given our circumstances is just daft.
The Reds has a few supporters questioning if Klopp was the right choice......
Ok, he hasn’t won anything but a CL final, Europa Final and a LC final in three years, plus the players and the way we play is good enough for me.....
Just no pleasing some idiots

Now the dust has settled from Saturday, I think I will reserve comment until I see the team that's picked for Cardiff and how we set about getting a result.

Agreed, seems to be massive lack of patience perhaps, and maybe a slightly worrying sense of entitlement creeping in for some. Everything about the club seems to be done with a long term view, in a sustainable and sensible way. Last season, staying up was the only real objective and that was achieved almost comfortably. I'd imagine it's broadly the same target this season. Players will be added, and each one likely to be an intended upgrade on what they're competing with or replacing but without spunking fortunes on 'star' names. Lancing will start to produce too - we're already seeing step-changes in the U23s - it takes time. We'd all love to get the instant gratification of an all-out attacking team going for it every game, but we don't have the personnel to do that now (and would get shredded if we tried), so pragmatism rules, with steady, incremental improvement happening over time. Splashing an instant 100m on a team of stars isn't working out too well for Fulham so far. That said, hoping to see Andone in particular get some kind of chance soon......looked fit and strong in his little cameo on Saturday, and we'll look a lot better with Pascal orchestrating things.

Our position is respectable, although could have slipped the other way as wins against Man U and newcastle probably werent on the radar. WE can play really good football and I again resort to almost the same post as I did last year, its the manager who puts the puts the brakes on with his tactics and game plan, yet I find it all most impossible to criticise him due to what he has achieved. That said £110m spend on players this summer at this time doesn't look like money well spent.

I don't disagree with you, as Locadia does not seem to have we need, but I find March being in that position strange, when he's been a wide man with a strong aim to defend as much as attack. Even out wide he hasn't ever seemed to clearly know what to do, team-wise, without instruction. I pray that he will mature into a player that can read the process of play, and those he plays with, but he's not there yet, and if he's guaranteed a start, I'd rather see him out wide with someone with a bit more guile behind and with Muzza.
Andone may be the hope, I suppose. But Ali J and Knocky seem like they have the experience and wit to link up play and roam.

Ok. So you do think that a 18 year old who has never played a minute of first team football (outside of cups) should keep out Locadia and Andone and given, that you want him on the pitch; Glenn Murray as well. Ok. fair enough.

How will we know?... this is the point, CH will bury him in DS or loan until he is 23 at least, then he is like to move on. We often see decent 18 or 19 year olds appearing on the scene with many clubs, we won't know if AC is one of those unless he is given some minutes...... and of course not in place of Murray.

I don't know anything, of course - but assuming that if the idea of an attacking substitute is the hope that they can come on and nick a goal, I think I'd back young Connolly as likely as anybody to do this in his current form. No harm in trying it, surely - maybe take Locadia's place on the bench for a couple of matches (who hasn't come on and nicked a goal since February).

Are you suggesting CH's reputation and standing within the club will be based on 90 minutes v Cardiff?

Have you thought this through?
It could prove difficult to find the replacements replacement replacement if Connolly doesn't nick a goal when he comes on.

We'll be running out of fellas from the 'best player are only the best when they don't play' category of NSC cliches.

Start with Murray; take him off after 75 minutes, replace with Connolly; at 80 minutes, if no goal, Locadia for Connolly, 85 minutes, bring on Andone for Locadia.........

Simples!

4-4-2: I assume with a second striker that comes deep (or goes wide) and a back to the goal target man

4-4-1-1 With just the one attacker (who needs to be quicker than Murray: I hope Andone is like Richarlison!?) and a roving attacking "creative" midfielder Gerrard type role (Pascal Groß or Sigurdsson?).

or my preference for the lop-sided 4-3-3 with one winger only (we can only play on one wing at a time and 3 players are needed for a breakaway in the EPL).

I am a Total Football advocate so I do not hold with pandering to specialist players that do not track back and will not play out of their comfort zone (e.g. favourite position wide out on the wing!)

Not at all.

Would be easy to wade into the argument for the team set up away etc etc but bit unfair off the back of playing Everton.

Just think would be a more valid argument to have if we have another shit performance on Saturday considering the opposition.

If and when that happens then will bother putting my input in.

It's more general than that, but yes Connolly should soon be getting a few cameo appearances from the bench at least, in my view.......

...... the pattern has been : Player performs well in Dev squad, gets a non playing bench appearance in cup or lower profile league game, gets shifted to loan club for season or two,... released/sold.

Generally because exposure to senior football at a lower league level demonstrates that they've not been good enought to promote to the first team, either at Championship or Premier League level.

The standard of the U23s, even in the top division of PL2, is a long way from the Premier League.

Don't forget the two disallowed offside goals which both could have been given!

We have scored more this season (Murray has) and we have stopped the bad leaks at set pieces.

Our passing has gone to pot, and we have lost the ball more often than last season.

We don't have anything remotely like the quality of players that Everton and Wolves have... so that is "outside the top 8" - before you consider the unarguably stronger squads of Bournemouth, Watford and Leicester ...

consider the likes of West Ham and Palace and then, actually, there are really only 6-8 teams in the PL (notably Huddersfield, Newcastle, Burnley, Cardiff, Fulham & Southampton) with which we should be remotely expecting to go "toe-to-toe" away from home...

Our record in these away games (2018/19) is so far P2 W1 D1 L0 Pts 4. Let's hope for another good result at Cardiff, eh?

Realism, common sense.

There should be no nostalgia about CH's tactics last season.

There were countless threads and posts criticising him for long spells last season, with the same old unrealistic whinging posts.

It was stop start, CH being heavily criticised in those last few months too ... until the Spurs and ManUre games.

You see I didn't get to as many away games last year where I think this style of play was utilised more regularly - at home I didn't think we sat as obviously deep last season as we are this season (or at least not for 85 minutes of every game as we seem to be at the moment), but can't comment on the away performances as I didn't go to enough. I went to 2 in total last season but saw all the home games, yet I've seen most of the away games this year as well as all of the home games. For me, our attitude away from home is creeping into our style and attitude at home too, and that's the biggest concern.
