I must admit, I think they're fudging it too. Ultimately, if they had counted that game and won it, they would be playing in the division above. Equally, if there were no play offs in place, they would also be playing in the division above. This "record" is nothing of the sort, it is gubbins.

A play off final is a league game surely, as it determines which league you play in for the next season. Therefore Huddersfield lost a league game at Old Trafford.

Ridiculous, 46 games a season, anything else is not part of league season but a separate decider...look at the league table...it says 46 not 47,48 games played

Meopham, Kent.
If they don't lose tomorrow then they set the record for unbeaten Football League run but they lost in the play off final so surely that is a loss ?

I heard this being discussed on teh radio the other day, and it's because the play-offs are deemed a cup competition.

It's an amazing run, but the record would be a bit of sham.

It's not the record though is it? Arsenal hold the record. Yes, they did it in the top division, but so did Forest, so to say

"we hold the record for the longest unbeaten run in the Football League history except for after they invented the Premier League and then Arsenal went unbeaten for longer even though effectively they were playing in the same division with a different name to Forest"

is a bit lame if you want my opinion.

Nice effort and all that, but it didn't get them anywhere as they kept drawing games. Which doesn't get you promoted. Offer any Huddersfield fan the chance to have swapped a few of those draws for a defeat and a couple of wins instead and they'd bite your hand off.

Actually, I'm thinking of the season long thing that Arsenal did. In retrospect, I'm not sure quite how long their unbeaten run was in terms of games, so I stand ready to be corrected :dunce:

Ah yes, so it was. So Huddersfield have absolutely no record whatsoever until they beat 49 games.

Not counting play off matches or cup games. Brilliant.

Evening!! Huddersfield fan in peace!!

Just visiting to see what you boys were saying about your manager's interesting comments today and spotted this thread about little old us!!!

It's interesting seeing the comments about our run from other fans as if it something that the club and the fans have somehow 'made up' given the play off loss!!??

We don't make the rules fellas, the league do and in their eyes none of the play off games count and thus we will beat the football league record of 42(previously held by Notts Forest) if we don't lose to Notts County tomorrow!!!! Arsenal's 49 is the Premier league record!!!

Obviously it is something we are proud of......as you would be, but yeah perhaps too many draws and it all means nothing if we don't go up this season!!!

Any road-sorry for the intrusion and here's hoping we resume battle next season!!!!

You're right, it is something to be proud of, but it is utterly pointless until you match/beat Arsenal's record. They can't say Forest's record counts because it's in the Football League- they were in exactly the same division that Arsenal are in, just with a different name. I'm afraid I'm one of those people who can't stand the SkySports revision of football history, in that nothing counts before 1992, and players get trophies for goalscoring feats in the Premier League, when the likes of Dixie Dean and Jimmy Greaves scored HUNDREDS of goals in the same division, years before.

Why don't we just call it the English league record, which is Arsenal's, and stop all this bullshit about Forest. No offence, like, you can't complain at not losing for that long (mind you, I bet when you do finally lose one, you lose a few, it always happens :) ) I guess perhaps it's the Football League trying to make out they're important still.

Anyway, good luck etc, I honestly don't wish you ill, I just think all this record stuff is a bit of old fluff.

Absolutely 100% agree with this.

I hope Huddersfield either lose tomorrow, or go on to break Arsenal's record too - or it will be a bit of a joke to go on claiming anything if they falter half-way between the two...
