From the Football League website - The Football League | News | npower League 1 | npower League 1 news | Huddersfield set new all time record

Congratulations to Huddersfield Town who this afternoon set a new Football League record. The Terriers won 2-1 against Notts County at the Galpharm Stadium to stretch their unbeaten record to 43 league games and beat a record set by Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest back in 1978. Lee Clark's men are so far unbeaten in 2011 league competition. Since losing 4-1 at Southampton on 28th December 2010 Huddersfield have won 25 games and drawn 18, scoring 82 goals and conceding 37. Greg Clarke, Chairman of The Football League, led the congratulations: "I would like to extend my congratulations to everyone at Huddersfield Town on reaching today's historic landmark. To have gone 43 consecutive league matches without defeat is a fantastic achievement by the club. Particularly when you take into account the many, many outstanding teams that have played in The Football League during its 123-year history. "Huge credit must go to Manager Lee Clark and his players for sustaining the level of performance needed to break Nottingham Forest's long-standing record."

No, it's a cup competition, apparently. Seven more games until they can beat Arsenal's record set in 2004 of 49.

Amazing how a team can go 43 League games unbeaten and never be top of the League at any point.

Sorry, but it doesn't count for me. Win the league one play off final and you move up a league, lose and you stay in that league. So I don't understand that it isn't a league game. They have done bloody well, that's for sure, unbeaten? Not for me. My Mrs is from Huddersfield, and even she agrees that it is stupid to disregard the play offs.

Good for you. Fact is that the football league and the football authorities recognise it. So basically you and your mrs' opinion counts for nought.

Come on town. Brilliant record and another one to go in the trophy cabinet.

But it is ridiculous, the one game that decides what league you play in next season, is not classed as a league game. To me it just doesn't make sense. Because of the Mrs Hudds are my second team really, so I am not bad mouthing them at all. I would have loved to see them stuff the posh and be up with us, as I am sure most of their fans would too.

And wasn't it Brighton that ended Forests run?

No. Brighton were not in the top flight in 1978.

Brighton did end Forest's long unbeaten home record in 1979, though.

There are 46 league games in a season. Goals scored in the play offs are not counted as league goals so the games cannot be counted as league games either. Huddersfield should be applauded for their record.

Yes I know that, I just think it is wrong. Clark has done a brilliant job and I am not knocking HTFC at all. It is tremendous what they have done, and good luck for this season, but an unbeaten run, should not have a loss anywhere in it.

Exactly.

They're unbeaten except for the game they lost.

It's a great achievement however you dress it up.

I do think though that there is a real danger of this record being their 'elephant in the room'. They seem to draw an awful lot of games and I can't help but wonder if the pursuit of records is actually derailing the promotion push. I was listening to reports of one of their games, Oldham I think, and it sounded like they were really nervous. An unbeaten record counts for shit when you've drawn over half, ended up in the Play Offs, blown it and condemned yourselves to another season of League 1. Again.

Not really. Lee Clark just sets his team up to not get beaten so draws loads of games. If they went out to win more games they might be playing in the championship, or at least top league 1.

Unbeaten runs mean nothing if there's not a promotion or trophy at the end of it
