I can see why the comment about Hitler Youth would raise eyebrows but I do agree completely with the gist of what you're saying if not the way you describe! It is all too orchestrated. If another fan fancies a go at starting a chant he's got no chance at all. One bloke calls all the shots.

Their singers were moved to that stand five or six years ago, so away fans stand no chance against the noise they make. Occasionally, the away fans get something going, which then prompts the home fans to start again.

The fans had to fight for it. Initially we were given the little lower tier stand on the opposite side to the away fans, on an opt-in basis (ticket transfer), after a long campaign with the club. Then after that was a (partial) success the club got behind the idea and we eventually got the split stand with away fans at the start of last season. We used to see big games as an opportunity to get as much money from away fans, but now the club realises the importance of stacking the atmosphere factor in our favour. It's been a good investment.

I was linked here from a thread on DATM message board. Our fans are very complimentary towards Brighton and you, their fans. Thanks for the (mostly) kind words. I'm 61 and have followed Town for 50 of them. Believe me when I say that when all the ground stands to "love the Town", it brings a tear to my eye. The young 'ens worked very long and hard to get the club to allow them a singing section in that end you were in. For what it's worth, on the occasions you sang yesterday, you were probably the loudest at the JSS this season, easily louder than man utd. Sorry if this sounds condescending, I honestly don't mean to. Good luck, hope you and us stay up.

Thank goodness you put possibly. There are no words printed on anything, ever!. Everyone knows the songs, they're not exactly difficult. Aaron Mooy, Aaron Mooy, Aaron, Aaron Mooy, he's got no hair but we don't care, Aaron, Aaron Mooy. Super Col, super col, well you get the idea. I'm 65 and half the team we got in the summer, and even I have no difficulty remembering them all. Some like smile awhile have been around since the 1920s, and most folks know most of what is a long complicated song.
I guess it is orchestrated from the South stand, but whoever starts it, we all join in. Can't see what's zombie like or Hitler youth like about that. Surely better than trying to compete with each other, as some of your fans have mentioned. Also better than looking a prat, starting a song to find no one joins in with. Orchestrated singing, as has been pointed out happens in many grounds around the world. Guess some of your supporters don't like it, but most it seems do, and as mentioned before, thnks for all the compliments.

It's not for me and I would hate to see it at the Amex. I hated the drum and moved away as I was quite near your fans at the start of the game but there's no denying it does its job brilliantly, you've the noisiest home fans I think I've ever heard and the most varied songbook too. Hudds is a nice place, ground is dead easy to get to and the boozer that we went to before the game (Plumbers Arms) was very friendly.

Exactly...but some of our fans are " right on" and really fond of calling fans of other clubs " plastic " or "tin pot"

Being an ex pat terrier, I can see this both sides. Having being born in Huddersfield 59 years ago, yet supported brighton for 44 years since we moved here, I hate games between my two teams...I am too sensitive to all the complete shite that tends to be written by some people.

My brother, who actually left Huddersfield when we moved when he was 6 months old does follow them home and away. He came with me to brighton at the goldstone, gillingham withdean and finally Amex, and we would watch Huddersfield if brighton were playing miles away, but a couple of years ago, he got a bit pissed off , being a north stand STH like he, with some of the comments made at the brighton/ Huddersfield game, town scored had he yelled out " yesssss". I have done this many times it people know me around us for many years and it is a laugh....but some people got a bit upset and called for a steward to get him ejected. He was escorted over to the town fans after some discussion with the chief steward who I knew, and he has never been back. He is now a member at town and with a few others based around London had the SE he is on the list to buy a st and goes when the other st can't and give him their ticket. I wouldn't expect anyone to care and people don't, but at least it feeed up a St for the guy next to me to have.

In some ways it's everything the Amex isn't. One song starts and gets sung at the correct speed many of which are slow songs. Most players seem to have songs many are originals. The WHOLE Stadium responds in time. There doesn't seem to be ANY don't like that song so I'm not singing. The away end cannot compete so is silent for long periods. Most of the stadium stayed until the final whistle.

I thought the atmosphere yesterday was superb and as much as I do not want a drum it has to be said that it is essential if you want chants to be in time and co-ordinated. It's also a great idea to put the singers next to the away fans as it drowns them out. I admit I would like to see similar in the sound stand next to the away fans.

Looked for this thread though as knew there had to be one.

Best atmosphere from home fans that I can ever recall witnessing. Perhaps that because I have a shit memory but I really can't recall many like that. Wednesday were pretty good in the play-offs but this was exceptional.

We're far too cool to try and replicate it though.

Its a different kind of noise though isn't it? The roar and sheer volume at Wednesday in the play-offs and indeed from us for the first 20 mins at the Amex in the return leg is far more 'intimidating' for want of a better word. The persistence from Hudds fans is certainly admirable but there's no fear factor there, its just a constant level.

I dunno if I'm just deaf or stupid but I didn't really notice the clackers in the away end. I did notice them on the TV highlights and found them a bit annoying. My hunch is being next to their main group of singers with the drum meant the clackers were drowned out. The play-offs atmosphere was exceptional but it's a one off, and who is to say whether or not the Huddersfield fans would be even louder in such a scenario? There may not be a fear factor but as an away fan I like to sing, and we just couldn't get going because it was hard to hear ourselves.

Wednesday playoffs was a far far better atmosphere. Absolutely no comparison.

It's not just the drum. Its the guy at the front with a megaphone facing backwards choreographing the whole thing.words, actions, song choice and order. Completely controlled, orchestrated. Loud but completely forced. Hated it. Total karaoke.

I don't like drums or clackers either, but there is no way I am going to bitch about Huddersfield's support on saturday. Considering some of the libraries we have been to this season the Hudds fans created a game long racket that 76000 tourists at Old trafford can only dream of matching. Also remember that the team we played on saturday had lost four on the spin including a couple of spankings at the hands of Bournemouth and Arsenal, still didn't make them less vociferous.

Honest, we just keep singing! Even at 5-0 down. Why not, for many fans it's the first and possibly the only time they'll ever see us in the top division. In my own case, having started in 1965 it's the 2nd time, going back to the Frank Worthington days. Lets just hope it lasts longer than last time.

I think some of our fans could do with this level of humility. Some seem to expect us to be in the Prem.
