Had my HTC Desire HD since November and love it except for battery life and a few of the usual software 'glitches' smartphones tend to get now and then.
It does have flash player for a better web experience but it's not compatible to get Seagulls World to work on it.

You can watch videos no problem but I have tried listening to matches, which is my main reason for having World as I live away now, but no joy.

I've got the Wildfire and no problems with it, other than occasionally being a bit slow and having to catch up - but then this is one of the entry-level HTC phones and free with a £20 contract, so not surprising. Also frustrating that a number of the apps on the Android Market seem to be available for newer HTC phones, but not older models. But, again, I knew this when going for the more basic wildfire.

Recommended adding the "Power Control" widget to one of the front screens, making it very easy to enable/disable wifi, bluetooth, gps and screen brightness. Generally get through about 3 days of normal use without recharging (currently on 2 day 13 hours with 50% battery).

I have the HTC desire hd, when I first got it in Jan the battery life was awful, now for some reason it has improved by 100%

It's to do with the Wildfire's screen size mate, when Android first came out on the G1 it had a screen resolution of 320x480 (same as the iPhone). Since then we've got higher res screens (480x800) and entry level phones like the Wildfire (240x320). Most apps developed will be developed with the 320x480 resolution in mind as it is what's considered the default, Android will automatically scale UP an application to work on the higher screen size but won't scale DOWN to work on the lower res (like Wildfire) so the Marketplace simply doesn't show them. You will find though most developers will update their apps in due course to support the lower resolution handsets now they are getting really quite popular.

How much? If reasonable it might be worth getting for the son-in-law. It's probably out of my price range to be honest but worth asking just in case.
Thanks,

I have the Wildfire, but wished I hung on and got the desire HD. If you download the app task killer from the market, it helps with battery life. (sorry if that's common knowledge, but I found out about it and it helps)

Thanks for letting me know Wookie. Unfortunately it's well out of my price range. Was worth asking I guess just in case.
I would suggest to anyone else considering it though that it's an absolutely cracking phone.
Cheers mate,

I had my brand new Desire S delivered this week. It's essentially the same as the regular Desire but with a little more power, the latest version of Android built in and a FANTASTIC unibody case that makes it feel proper solid.

This phone is the greatest gadget that mankind has ever knocked out. I absolutely adore it.

Admittedly the battery life is lacking when compared to my trusty old Nokia E71 but I'm reliably informed by other HTC owners that it needs a few full drain and charge cycles before the battery is operating at peak performance. Also it probably doesn't need the gorgeous HD aquarium background I'm currently rocking but oh my days does it look sweet.

I've also had to tell everything to stop auto-updating at 1 minute intervals to stop it constantly beeping at me nd spunking precious battery power. Well worth doing.

As regards app killers however I have read that they're generally not very efficient for Android phones as the OS is better at power management than any app killing and restarting things. Worth thinking about anyway. You're better off just telling the phone that you don't need to be reminded of EVERY email you get in EVERY account EVERY second of the day

Go into seagulls.co.uk, get into Player and go onto the commentary page.

Down the page, there should be a link that says 'go to accessible page' or something like that. Click on that and you will get the commentary
