Anyone who's served in a war zone deserves a medal imo and it matters not a jot if they are royalty, a chinless wonder or tattooed chav.

Prince William hasn't served in a war zone, has he? I was under the impression he's done a few attachments with Navy boats picking up pirates in the Caribbean, so to speak, and used an RAF helicopter to pick up his missus for the weekend.

I don't doubt he has to do all the training that other soldiers do, but I'm sure he hasn't actually served anywhere, nor is he likely to because the country NEEDS him...

As an ex serving member of HM Forces and knowing that this country doesnt dish out medals for shooting competitions, can somone explain why William is wearing a medal and what it was for?

It was his dad`s Blue Peter badge.

It's a Golden Jubilee Medal. Smaller than all the rest, and made out of chocolate with a shiny wrapper. I tried to give mine back because it made the rest look shite, but I was told I wasn't allowed to.

The Queen's Golden Jubilee 2002 Medal was awarded to all military & emergency service personnel who were a) in service on 6 February 2002 and b) had served for at least 5 years. Other than that, it was given to assorted Royals and people in direct service to the Sovereign.
