How times change

If Dick Knight had still been in charge and we were about to lose our most successful striker since Zamora because we weren't prepared to pay his wages, NSC would be full of comments like get your chequebook out, we can't afford not to pay him what he wants, etc.

Now Tony Bloom is in charge, who has loads more dosh than DK ever had, the general consensus is we are doing the right thing by not giving in to financial blackmail.

Different times.

Tony Bloom has taken us to another level both on and off the pitch. But if it wasn't for Dick, our club wouldn't have survived.

It's a fair point.

But it's also a stupid one - a man who's given us £93m for a stadium isn't going to be criticised for his spending.

How easy it is now (that we have Tony's backing) to dismiss the people who:

- fought the crooked owners and exposed their plans, & rest the club from their filthy grip
- expertly got much of european football on our side in publicising our plight
- got a foothold for the Club in the City again
- ran the club on a shoestring, but got us 3 promotions in a short period
- got planning permission for a stadium in countryside, against many enemies with deeper pockets
- personally injected seven-figure sums each, despite not being tycoons.

Well done to them and for what they did for us.

Tony taking it to another level.

Quite simply, TB wouldn't be what and where he is right now without rejecting the claims of Glenn Murray. He is the most astute chairman BHA has ever had and knows exactly what is right. Having said no to GM he and GP will already have other options, quite amply demonstrated by the almost immediate signing of Will Hoskins, and no doubt others.
These guys are not to be messed around with and know exactly what they want and if needed, will do it in the manner of cool, and subjective experienced gamblers.
We are fortunate but I still have the occasional recurring bad dream about having to attend a BHA Board meeting.
It always scares me having to face up to the directors.

People would look for any excuse to have a go at Knight. Bloom wouldnt have a stadium to put £93m into if it wasnt for the likes of Knight and Perry.

People seem to forget this, and many other, facts.

I think you have a grossly over-inflated view of Murray's talent.

Maybe, just maybe, most of us agreed that he was not worth paying too much to, were aware that Gus does not rate him very highly, and that we would get better to replace Murray. If Knight was is charge, you knew it was likely to be some useless kid being "given a chance" - i.e. we would go for the cheap option yet again. Obviously, unless he could get someone else to pay for someone like Murray in the first place.
