[Albion] How the hell have we only conceded one goal?

Some of it is luck (or fine margins as they say).

Balance is another key. Veltman and Hinshelwood has been playing as defenders, not some sort of overlapping pseudo-wingers like the wing/full backs played last season, and our defenders being on the "right" side of the opponent just defuses a lot of potentially dangerous situations.

Our days of one minute attacks, where everyone is eventually on the opposing half, are gone. This new team is all about winning the ball, not keeping it. The defenders are allowed to circulate the ball in build up but whenever it reaches a midfielder turned against the opposing goal, the vertical pass will come regardless if the opportunity is perfect or not, rather than like in the past when there's been an eternal fight to find the perfect opening.

The biggest contributor is the lamentable finishing against us. This is part luck and part we've played bad / out of form teams.

I actually don't think we've defended that well. The centre backs have been very good. But I feel the full backs have been caught out too far up the field and this is the main reason we look so vulnerable on the break.

We've got away with it thus far. But I would be getting Ferdi in ASAP. Pervis, i'm more inclined to get him the recovery time he needs. I reckon we might see Lamptey RB, Ferdi LB for about a month

I saw nothing last night to suggest Lamptey should be starting ahead of Veltman

Yeah I've had some problems with my next video. Namely, I found a game called Gearcity (some some sort of Excel-y car sales management game) which has occupied 87% of my time the last few days.

A bit of credit for our defence please. We’ve done really well at stepping up and ensuring opposition attackers are offside.

For me it’s one of the biggest changes in the way we play. Teams stopped playing this way because of the fallibility of human linespersons, but with VAR and semi-automated offsides coming in, I honestly feel like it’s a valid method of defending again.

Manchester United's Diallo made one hell of a good move on our backs. Steele really didn't have a chance. Not a good answer to the question?

I saw nothing to suggest we should retain him for this season. Painfully awful in the first half particularly.

Three competitive games for Super Fab now and one goal conceded.

How on earth has that happened? I’m more nervous than an EDL rioter in a courtroom when the other team gets the ball this season, yet three games against very different opposition would suggest that the mutterings we’d concede less this season are spot on.

What’s the secret NSC sages?
Luck

Here
Everton …. we closed off the Harrison route.
Manure …. offside trap effective & their blunder.
Tonight …. our B team got away with conceding a fair few. Lamptey and others were bloody awful.

Playing Hinshelwood at LB and/or Lamptey at RB on Saturday will see a spanking. Time to play specialists who are quality.
They were indeed, luckily Crawley were crap at finishing and Bart was superb

I'm amazed how the pundits are universally praising everything BHAFC at the mo, with no hint of potential short-comings. It's almost as if they haven't actually watched our games - just the MotD highlights....

Have you ever heard pundits talking before?

You may as well ask your wheely bin for its insight into last weekend's matches.

We have protected the defence a lot better than we were last season, but I still feel massively uneasy in Steele. Let's be honest - we were incredibly lucky the second disallowed goal hits their player on the line and not behind the line. Otherwise we're 2-1 down and probably draw at best in the game, despite being really comfortable and obviously the better side. We were opened up in that moment. The first disallowed goal is obviously offside so doesn't really matter and wouldn't have been on Steele anyway. I'm not sure of the stats, but it feels like teams aren't getting as many shots off against us which is crucial when your goalkeeper isn't going to make many difficult saves.

I actually think potter ball was the most controlled. We were a lot more defensive , but on the flip side we barely scored until the end of his reign.

You've got to imagine arsenal are gonna thrash us. These new signings are way off bedding in. Weifer and O'Riley are injured , gruda I presume as well. Ferdi probably 2 weeks away. Maybe only Rutter to bring in. And as everyone in this thread is thinking , we are due an absolute tonking, especially if conceding first. Gonna see what the odds are on arsenal scoring 3 on Saturday.
You do rather have a tendency to catastrophise.

Weiffer might well NOT be injured Saturday. It was seemingly a very minor issue that kept him out last week.
Ferdi played on 10th and 17th August, so he is fit and ready, as soon as Hürzeler is happy to put him in.
